Just curious why everyone hates black uniforms. I'm a traditionalist - I think our uniforms should be red or blue. Great iconic programs wear pretty much the same jersey forever. Wanna-be programs seem to be the ones on the black jersey trend, ala Texas Tech. Maybe there IS something to the marketing/recruiting aspects of gimmicky jerseys like black or the bizarre junk over at TCU, but it just irks me. If we went to black, I wouldn't riot. I don't think it's that big a deal, but I'd rather not see it. Why do YOU hate black jerseys?

Tradition. I get tired of every new coach or class coming in and trying to establish some new "tradition" that will make us more like team X by doing away with a tradition that they never bothered to learn.
It especially irks me when the people advocating the new tradition get tired of it after a few weeks or months and stop doing it, leaving us without the old tradition they removed and without anything to replace it.

1. black is not our color.
2. red and blue are our colors.
3. black is the color of our opponent.

I'd be on board if they looked like couch em's mock up as opposed to Tech unis.

1. We have (or at least had) the sharpest unis in college football. The black unis are cheap and U.G.L.Y. They look like Texas Tech, which are the most classless
2. It's pathetic to me that we need to motivate our players to be tough by dressing them up. If our players feel like wussies, recruit tougher players. Toughness comes from the heart, not the closet.
3. Tradition. To me this feels like we're spitting on the service of literally thousands of student-athletes who have fought for the red and blue of SMU.
4. Hypocrisy. Shoving black unis (and geldings) down our throats is bad enough. But to cloak it in some BS about honoring the armed forces is insulting. I'm a very proud Navy brat. My dad served for 34 years including 2 tours in Vietnam (plus more in naval intel state-side). From enlisting as a seaman recruit, he came just shy of running the table and retired as a Navy Captain. His last command was NAS Sigonella (Sicily) during Desert Storm, which was a primary staging area for the operation. After retiring, because of his civic work and work he did on behalf of Fort Polk, he was named an honorary special forces colonel (all the trappings, none of the pay). Most recently, he was inducted into The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem. Suffice it to say, he's been wearing uniforms all his adult life, and to my recollection, the only time he's ever worn black is a dress uniform that's essentially the military version of a tuxedo (what they wear to parties).
Through all these uniforms and of all the accolades he's received both on the field of battle and in the community for the civic work he's done, I think one of the things he's most proud of is winning the Southwest Conference title wearing red and blue.

Remember when Fred Akers put stripes on the pants? Now that was radical. Lasted only as long as Fred did. What D1 schools have not changed their traditional uniform? (Excluding minor "adjustments") Texas Oklahoma Nebraska USC (sleeve stripe adjustment) Notre Dame (alternate interlocking ND and sleeve numbers - depending on the coach) Tennessee Penn State UCLA (jersey numbers) LSU Florida State Kansas State Iowa (since Hayden Fry's arrival) Oregon (just seeing if you're paying attention) please add....

I thought green was a N.D. color, anyway I don't care what other teams do.

Why do YOU hate black jerseys? [/quote] Why does this picture make me think of The Night of the Living Dead?!??!? Would we be required to wear some sort of special effect glasses to see our team? I really dislike them--------a lot! They are UGLY!

Don't hate black jerseys. Hate the concept of a "blackout" in the stands for this game (or others).
Of course, I don't love the black jerseys either. For one thing, they make the team look smaller. I'd be more entusiastic about special black jerseys against an opponent whose main color is not black. (Break out the black for the TCU game, and include some of those fancy gloves that when you put your hands together look like a Mustang, and I'm all in).
