Nice letter.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The response seems to imply that Turner was very aware that JJ is looking at that we may lose him. I don't place much cred in Turner. JMO.

It is a double edge sword for turner...losing JJ could be a major damper in century campaign, but I think he wouldn't mind getting to name another head coach before he leaves...
Really SMU didn't move very far up academic rankings until JJ got here...Not a coincidence..

I doubt Turner would see Jones' departure as a loss.

He would when the % of Alumni donating falls, thus lowering our overall academic ranking...

I don't think Turner would be unscathed if JJ left. There would be a lot of turmoil and unrest with the football community and could result in Turner losing a lot of financial commitments.

Turner believes football does not impact giving.

I know you're being sarcastic Samurai but then again - that would be scary if he actually believed that.

GT is incredibly smart, very fair and ethical (balanced) and is well informed and involved in what goes on. SMU is fortunate to have him at the helm.

well I'll say that's the first time I've seen a post with those sentiments on this board

No, he actually does believe so. The committee which he heads came to that very conclusion, and it is one which Turner endorses publicly and privately.

I know him personally.
He's very involved in what goes on with athletics, or at least very knowledgable about it. He operates at a high level on BCS issues -- athletics and academics/funding issues. SMU has also made excellent academic strides under his watch. #3 ranked in Texas behind only Rice and UT.
I'm sure you see him quite a bit at Moody supporting the basketball team. As you know, he played hoops in college.
I don't think he takes as harsh a stance as the current Ohio State president did while he was at Vandy.

Turner has been at one (1) game this season. Mustangbill and I were discussing this at the last game.
And yes, I recall he played at Lubbock Christian. A private school with no football team which dwells in the shadow of a much larger school that does.

I talked to him before the Jack Ingram concert about my strong family connections to Ole Miss. So he was at that game.
