Re: Clock Management Was TerribleEveryone knows coach is an offensive mastermind and is a great evaluator of talent, but when it comes to in-game management/adjustments, I think he is below average. With the 2 pt conversion issue, I have tried to think of a logical reason not to go for it but cant. At that point, you have to be thinking that we pretty much have to keep them scoreless for a chance to win. If you are thinking you can give up another FG, you still need two TD's whether you hit the 2 pt conversion or not. If they score a TD, you are toast regardless. It just doesn't make sense at all. He and the staff had plenty of time to ponder this on that long drive.

Re: Clock Management Was TerribleJJ does do things differently than I would do them.
Re: Clock Management Was TerribleMaybe some one has already mentioned it, but what about the first half decision not to kick a field goal with the wind and once we decided to go for it to run an option. I thought those decisions were poor and would cost us. It smacked of desperation. We have Zack Line who runs north south better than anyone and we run an option???? Stupid, IMO.

Re: Clock Management Was Terrible
the way that play turned out, and the way the aftermath looked on the field, I think Padron was trying to channel Lance and pitch it at the last possible moment...only to be blown up by the (I think) blitzing LB much faster than he anticipated
Re: Clock Management Was Terrible
There was a huge gust of wind that started blowing directly into the kicker before the time out was called just saying
Re: Clock Management Was Terrible
I thought the clock was running down until I read the Jones' quote that said he wanted to call the kicker over and tell him to relax. Do not think that was a good idea. I watched the replay and told my wife at the end that we looked better than I had thought during the game. I brought up the clock management and she told me that hindsight was easy to do and she was sure that the coach knew what he was doing and thought it was right at the time. So I cannot argue about it anymore. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Clock Management Was TerribleWe don't have time for Kyle to run to the sideline every play when we are that far behind in the second half. Especially not against a ball control ground attack team. I used to gripe that PB ran a hurry up offense against better teams. Now, I gripe because JJ runs a slow down offense while we are behind to an inferior team. We need some work on the 2 minute variety of offense. Maybe JJ will feel more comfortable sending in the plays next season or even calling a few plays ahead of time when we are behind by two scores and the clock is ticking.
Re: Clock Management Was Terrible
He said he'll stop having Padron run over in-between plays once he feels Padron gets the offense. I'm not optimistic this will ever happen. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Clock Management Was TerribleI don't want to be too [deleted] JJ, because we ended up in a position to win the game after being down 16 at half.
But this clock business is hard to take. I started threads after Tech and Central Florida about his bizarre approach to timeouts, as if they grow on trees. We don't blow out many teams, and fortunately we don't get clobbered too often. A lot of our games are in question in the 4th quarter. So it's more important for us than it is for Boise. Clock management is one of the few things that a coach has a LOT of control over, and it floors me that JJ isn't better at it. I would love for someone to convince him in the off-season that he needs to study his use of timeouts. I was pleasantly surprised that we had all 3 late in the 1st half. The 2nd half was what we've seen time and again. We blew one TO after getting a first down early in the 4th quarter down 9. Keep in mind that this was early in only our second possession of the half. Hard to believe we only had the ball 3 times in the 2nd half! By that point JJ knew that Army could burn clock, and that it was taking us a lot of plays and time to get anywhere. We couldn't afford to give away that timeout, but that's all too common for this team. After taking it, we gained 2 yards on a hand-off to Line. I doubt we would have done much worse with whatever we had called before the TO. Our guys were rushing into position but we could have gotten the play off. The worst thing about our 2nd TO is that it took JJ 35 seconds- the clock was running- to call it! I know he said he wanted to calm Matt down, which didn't work out, but at least make the decision right away. We were on the ball ready to kick it without any problem. Would've been a different situation if we had 2 TOs to stop the clock after the miss instead of one. The running to the sideline to get every call has been covered, so no need for me to pile on, other than to say I can't remember ever seeing another college team do it.
