The '94 NFC Championship Game, Cowboys vs. 49ers. We were the more talented team, but got down early 21-0 (if memory serves) due to turnovers. Cowboys had to dig themselves out of a hole and couldn't make it all the way out.
Same with the Ponies today. Looking at the box score and watching the game, we flat out-played Army. Turnovers are so frustrating. If we keep from committing those turnovers we win by 3 touchdowns in my opinion. I thought the defense played quite well and the offense moved the ball at will until they coughed it up.
The offense I saw in the last half of the 3rd quarter and most of the 4th quarter was as prolific as one could hope for. We finished drives, had momentum and I thought 'There's no way we're gonna lose this game. What a great comeback this will be.' Oh well, not meant to be.
The way I look at it, this year was still a step forward, just not quite as big as last years. The "trajectory" of this team is still going up in my opinion and the future's still bright. Still a great time to be a Mustang!!
On the other side of the ball...Army did what we did last year. They got a huge monkey off their back, and won a bowl game for the first time in 25 years. They were the beneficiaries of some gift turnovers, took advantage of them and played a clean game w/o turnovers. That's what you're supposed to do. Good for them.
Go Ponies!!!
