Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ Years7-7 Average
6-6 My prediction for the Year-Average 1-4 CUSA in Bowl Games-Below Average Recruiting Classes which supplied these players-Average for CUSA. Not a terribly talented team-look at which teams we struggled with who were-umm Average SMU's regular season schedule was a cakewalk with UH and Tulsa at home. Next year it will step up with Houston and Tulsa on Road, mix in Southern Miss and UCF plus A&M and TCU on the road and we should be a better team that may not win more. Conclusion: Average Team in a Mediocre Conference "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ YearsEnjoyed going to a bowl game today. Not satisfied with a loss, but very satisfied with what this program has achieved in three years and feel very good about the current recruiting. Grateful that a generation of frustration is over and have an expectation that improvement will continue.
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ Years
Which means that your recruiting staff made some errors. Every staff makes 'em.
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ YearsIt was the offense that failed. That's JJ specialty.
I'm not angry at #6.
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ Years
Hear, hear. Well said. Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ Years21 pts in 2 games in the run and shoot with a 2nd year qb and upperclassmen O-line should not occur...
Last year was great because we were a below average team that played above our level each week win or lose.... This year was so hard to watch because we were the better team in most games and continued to play below our potential... I don't remember attending a game this year where I wasn't really dissapointed, where as 2009 was such a proud year...
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ YearsIt took Ron Meyer, with some recruiting advantages we don't enjoy today, 5 years to create a winner at SMU. Changing a program takes time. It isn't as easy as taking the current players whose abilities magically improve with a new coach and win. It takes a lot of very hard work and practice, practice, practice. Kids have to learn a lot of details in playing the game and work very hard to hone those skills. Someone doesn't learn to play a piano or guitar in a few short weeks one fall. It takes years. Football is no different.
There is no doubt we are still overmatched by some of our opponents. What is frustrating is we have not learned to play to our level every game. We tend to play down to less talented opponents. One nice thing is we have a pretty decent road record this year. We went many a season without a road win at one time. We will be bigger faster and stronger next year. We will have more depth at all levels. We will have a lot more experience playing the game at D1 speed. This has been a tense year for us giving the rollacoaster ride of this team but it is part of building a winner. And we are moving forward.
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ YearsI am excited about the future, concerned about the offense, and concerned about our team's ability to get up for games...
I still believe in JJ, just wondering if JJ still believe SMU was the right choice and if a part of that is preventing us from being fully motivated.... Also, wondering if Italians are allowed into Kyle Field, not sure I will make it out of that place alive and with recent baby not sure I can go to that one...
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ Years
They love Italians in College Station - at least 1/4 the population of Brazos County is Italian. Your ethnicity isn't a hazard at A&M. The hazard is dealing with those folks whose IQ and common sense diminish when they enroll there.
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ Yearsthose of you who make your first trip to Kyle Field will be underwhelmed, I'll bet.
After having been to an SEC champ game and a few games in Baton Rouge, I was looking forward to seeing what I was told would be a much better, just as intimidating gameday experience in College Station. The place is surreal alright...but kind of...I don't know. It's loud, but not off the charts intimidating. Expect it to be really, really hot...and a drive up from Houston behind a lot of maroon suburbans...and a bunch of college kids who say "howdy" as you walk by on your way in.

Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ YearsWhen will we be able to get tickets to the Texas A&M game from the SMU ticket office?
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ Years
Give them a few days. I think they are still mailing out AFB tickets this weekend. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: We Wander Naked in the Desert for 20++ YearsThe 20 years after the DP, we averaged 3 wins a season and 9 losses and NO bowl appearances. SMU football was horrible during those years. The last two years we have averaged winning 7.5 games and gone bowling twice. We are average now and that is huge progress. Watch out in the next couple of years! JJ will make us very proud to be a Mustang!
