TCU RecruitingI stated yesterday in one of the posts that Patterson has recruited to their system, and it works. Hopefully that is what we are doing now, and following their lead on defensive players that can run.
I have gone through Rivals for the past four or so years, and have looked to see how some of TCU's starters and best players were rated coming out of high school by Rivals. Here is what I have found: Andy Dalton - 5.5 3 star Tank Carder - 5.2 2 star Jeremy Kerley - 5.8 4 star Jerry Hughes - 5.3 2 star Tekerrian Cuba - 5.6 3 star Tejay Johnson - 5.6 3 star Greg McCoy - 5.5 3 star Kelly Griffin - 5.5 3 star Marcus Cannon - 5.5 3 star Wayne Daniels - 5.7 3 star Ed Wesley - 5.2 2 star Zach Roth - 5.6 3 star Kyle Dooley - 5.2 2 star Jake Kirkpatrick - 5.0 2 star Josh Vernon - 5.5 3 star Josh Boyce - 5.5 3 star Tanner Brock - 5.7 3 star Waymon James - 5.9 4 star Stansley Maponga - 5.6 3 star D.J. Yendrey - 5.3 2 star Corey Grant - 5.3 2 star Jason Teague - 5.6 3 star Jimmy Young - 5.1 2 star Alex Ibiloye - 5.5 3 star Colin Jones - 5.5 3 star What I am trying to say here is that they got this good by recruiting kids to their system, coaching them up, and I am sure having classes where they can succeed. Very few of these kids were very highly recruited. Jake Kirkpatrick is a first team All American and had no other offers, other than interest from Arkansas State. They are clearly getting more interest from highly regarded recruits now and for the past few years, but even some of their commitments now are not THAT highly regarded. As much as I couldn't stand watching them win the frigging Rose Bowl yesterday, I think if we stay the course, keep getting better players, coaching them up, and keeping them in school for four or five years, what we watched yesterday could be us in a few years. I have full faith in June and his staff to do this. BUT, the school has to want it as much as we do, and June does.

Re: TCU RecruitingCarder was awesome - 2 star - wow.
Only 2 4*
Re: TCU RecruitingAndy Dalton - 5.5 3 star 2 Offers(0 BCS)
Tank Carder - 5.2 2 star 1 Offers (0) Jeremy Kerley - 5.8 4 star 9 Offers (9 BCS) Jerry Hughes - 5.3 2 star 3 Offers (0) Tekerrian Cuba - 5.6 3 star 7 Offers (5 BCS) Tejay Johnson - 5.6 3 star 10 Offers (9 BCS) Greg McCoy - 5.5 3 star 8 Offers (2 BCS) Kelly Griffin - 5.5 3 star 4 Offers (4 BCS) Marcus Cannon - 5.5 3 star 4 Offers (2 BCS) Wayne Daniels - 5.7 3 star 8 Offers (3 BCS) Ed Wesley - 5.2 2 star 3 Offers (0) Zach Roth - 5.6 3 star 4 Offers (0) Kyle Dooley - 5.2 2 star 1 Offers (0) Jake Kirkpatrick - 5.0 2 star 1 Offers (0) Josh Vernon - 5.5 3 star 2 Offers (1 BCS) Josh Boyce - 5.5 3 star 2 Offers (0) Tanner Brock - 5.7 3 star 12 Offers (9 BCS) Waymon James - 5.9 4 star 8 Offers (6 BCS) Stansley Maponga - 5.6 3 star 8 Offers (1 BCS) D.J. Yendrey - 5.3 2 star 1 Offers (0) Corey Grant - 5.3 2 star 3 Offers (0) Jason Teague - 5.6 3 star 6 Offers (3 BCS) Jimmy Young - 5.1 2 star 6 Offers (0) Alex Ibiloye - 5.5 3 star 8 Offers (6 BCS) Additional: Mathew Tucker 6 Offers(4 BCS) Collin Jones 3 Offers (1 BCS) Aundre Dean 8 Offers (8 BCS) Antonine Hicks* committed to UT on Day 1-12 months before signing date-Top 100-probably would had about 10 offers but I didn't include in numbers below 28 players 139 offers 73 BCS Offers* 16 players with BCS Offers. This represents probably the best non-BCS recruiting classes in the Country. The comparison of Star rankings in 2006-2008 with the present star ranking system is next to worthless because there has been grade inflation of about .80% as I've shown before. Without those Blue Chips like Kerley, TeeJay Johnson, Jason Teague, Wayne Daniels, Tanner Brock, Waymon James, Kelley Griffen, Greg McCoy, Alex Ibiyoye, Mathew Tucker, Stanley Maponga, Marcus Cannon, T. Cuba, Jimmy Young and others TCU is playing in the Armed Forces Bowl Last edited by Stallion on Sun Jan 02, 2011 3:14 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: TCU RecruitingStallion,
How far off is our recruiting class from TCU's this year... I think BCS to BCS offers it has to be in the realm...
Re: TCU RecruitingI am not sure what your point is, other than your usual method that you have to be correct. I am not at all trying to say that low ratings equal good teams. All I was saying is the initial rating of their classes is NOTHING close to what Texas, A&M, OU and probably Tech had and they won the Rose Bowl. We have a chance.
Do you care to debate this too?
Re: TCU RecruitingHe will debate it, unless the point is used to present the arguement that TCU could not compete week in or week out in Pac 10, Big 10, 12, or SEC...
It will always be that TCU has the best non-bcs class but relative to the big boys they are still outside the top 25.... 1 game with a month to prepare they can compete... Play Auburn at Auburn, Arkansas at home, alabama on the road...they lose 2 of 3 maybe all...esp when we look at recruiting differential between those 4 schools...
Re: TCU RecruitingThe equation is:
27 Seniors +16 Senior Starters(not sure of exact number but close) +Top non-BCS Classes +Low Attrition -NFL Draft which depletes the Top BCS teams =Rose Bowl Victory 13-0 No. 2 Ranked Team in the Country As for SMU's Class-if they are academically full qualifiers-and we'll see about that-I think it is the type of Class TCU has been signing for 13 years now although in 2010 and 2011 TCU is taking it to a new even higher level. As I've said add up the Rivals and Scout rankings in BOTH Total Points AND Average Points Per Recruit and if your Class is ranked anywhere between No. 50 to say about No. 62 then you can be pretty sure its a great non-BCS Classes. If 6 recruits each year don't qualify or if you have signed injured goods then deduct accordingly "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: TCU RecruitingApplying the Formula Above:
(not including Yenga recommitment) Rivals(Total Points) 41 Rivals(Aver. Points) 46 Scout (Total Points) 45 Scout (Aver. Points) 70 Right now we have somewhere about a Top 50 or 51 Recruiting Class not including Yenga recommitment "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: TCU RecruitingUpdated to Include Yenga on Scout:
Scout(Total Points) 40 Scout (Average Points) 68 Reappyling Formula Top 48-49 Rated Class "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: TCU RecruitingTop 50 recruiting class is good progress IMO. We've got some kids in this class who can really play.

Re: TCU RecruitingBecause that is based on Total Points and SMU right now I think has the most commitments of any team in the Country. More commitments=more total points and inflates rankings. Other schools will fill up their Class and score more total points before signing date. A lot of schools oversign and inflate their rankings with guys who very well may never set foot on campus because they are likeky non-qualifiers. Such schools have be known to sign 28-30-35 even 38 players even though only 25 can enter school in August. Other schools retain and graduate their student athletes and those schools generally only sign 18-22 recruits. There is a great website on Oversigning which demonstrates exactly how schools-most notably SEC schools push scholarship limits. Its a mirage. TCU is one of those schools which retains and graduates which is why they had 27 Seniors and 16 Senior Starters in the Rose Bowl. Don't think TCU has signed more than about 21 or so in 5 years. So the best analysis in my opionion is to balance Total Points and Average Points per recruit. But feel free to choose whatever ranking you want. In my opinion it can be an illusion.

Re: TCU RecruitingThe point I am making is that TCU recruited to their system, regardless of what Rivals thought about their class. We finally have a coach that has a system on both sides of the ball, and they are recruiting to it. I think we have a chance in the not too distant future if we keep it up AND keep them in school where we have that many seniors playing.
Re: TCU RecruitingWhat Stallion ever so cleverly leaves out is how many of their kids who have virtually zero offers played significant roles on their team (Dalton, Wesley, Tank, etc.) Yes they have recruited well, but some of their most dynamic players are the ones who were not major recruits.

Only Thompson and D.J. received more than 1 BCS offer. Only 6 SMU starters received a BCS offer. Only 55 Total Offers for 22 positions-and 22 of those were from SMU. Only 33 Offers from other D1A schools. Now go compare to the TCU numbers "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
