Seniors starting on offense:
WR 81 Kamar Aiken Sr.
LT 66 Abré Leggins RSr.
RT 76 Jah Reid RSr.
HB 43 Ricky Kay Sr.

as opposed to SMU, where we similarly had a starting senior wide receiver, in addition to a left tackle who as a junior started every game of his career, and the conference's leading rusher at running back.

pretty legit point. i think experience does matter, but i'm not sure that's the only explanation for a mediocre year.

This "learning the offense thing" is a load of bull when you are talking about a 2 yr starter. I like Padron - but when things arent going smoothly and he has been at it as long as he has then I think the "still learning" thing is a crutch.

i would expect him to get pressure for the position this spring. He will prpobably retain the spot but no guarantees. You can get this offense in a yr and a half - its not that tough.

Not worried. Padron will be much better next year. The receivers will be much better next year. The offense will be much better next year. Book it.

Remember, this was Padron's first full season at QB at EITHER the college or high school level. At times he looked great. . .at times he didn't. Nothing surprising there. He'll be fine.

Someone earlier pointed out that Padron played poorly in several games, one of which was the TCU game. That's a little unfair. He spent most of that game running for his life and getting absolutely pummeled by one of the top 2 or 3 defensive lines in the country. When he actually got a little time in the pocket, he looked pretty good. Also remember that on the one long pass SMU completed in that game, DJ got run down from behind by the TCU defenders. Those TCU corners and safeties were brutal. It was really hard for the receivers to make anything happen after the catch in that game. . .which is an integral part of the R&S.

With respect to UCF and their freshman QB. . .the victory against Georgia was a result of UCFs very impressive defense. The offense hardly lit it up against the Dogs.

Next season is going to be fun.

Totally agreed. UCF is impressive (really looking forward to seeing what they can do in Austin next year), but their offense didn't exactly light it up against SMU, either.

The "still learning the offense" line is pure BS. Go look at my SMU year 3vs Hawaii year 1 thread. Hawaii's offense was rockin' from year 1. The reality is not that they are "learning" in the sense they are studying it, they are "learning" it the same way any team not executing is still learning. We are not executing.

Anyway, we are hardly running the run 'n shoot. We are running a basic offense to limit mistakes/turnovers and feed the ball to Zach Line.

Even June Jones says it takes a lot of time to learn his run and shoot system. The reason we are running a basic offense is that we still aren't there yet to fully execute the R&S. So who hasn't mastered it yet...the QB or the receivers? Remember, they both have to be on the same page reading the defense the same way and reacting to it the same way. It is a complex system compared to your basic offense with the receivers running standard routes which is probably why he doesn't rotate in different receivers all the time. Let's see how next year works out as we work new receivers into the system. Hopefully the younger receivers are picking up on the system.

You have a good point here. Hawaii has always had success when their RECEIVERS had three or more years of experience in the Run and Shoot, not the QB.

I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.
