Zach Missed 2 very Key blocks in the Bowl Game that cost us! 1st missed block was on the Padron Fumble for a Touchdown. That was Zach's block and he missed. 2nd missed block was on the 3rd and 9 on the last drive that resulted in a long/missed field goal. Both times his Read hit Padron and screwed up the play. There is a lot of room for improvement throughout this team. Also, we do need another back to come in and provide some breakaway speed. Maybe KC is that guy. Watch the tape before you start touting Line as a Perfect Blocker

No one said he was perfect...in fact no one is perfect, period, but he is better at it than a lot of guys.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

No word on if Josh has made his grades (which were his issue but it might have been the "progress towards degree completion" that was the issue rather than gpa). He does workout with the team, practices with scout team, I guess doesn't go to some meetings but did keep his scholarship and count towards our total.

So who knows - one has to assume the coaches have a feel for this type of thing.
Jerry Ball ATE himself into a nose guard. However, he was great because he kept his quickness despite adding 80 or 90 pounds in college. As Merlin Olson once said about Louie Kelcher when he went from 270 lbs to 360 lbs in one summer, "He had a FAT attack!"

I would expect Josh back in the spring. Bordano missed a ton of practice time with a foot injury. I hope Pittman and Henderson make it back. I was very disappointed to see how overweight and out of shape Wilkerson looked. I expect Fields to get a serious look at lb, some schools recruited him for that spot. KC doesn't have breakaway speed. I don't know what if anything, we'll do with Pope. Keep an eye out for Forest Hagar to enroll in the spring. Did I miss anything?

I read many posts on High School boards claiming Pope was a superstar LB at the Class A Level. A tad small but he did excell at the position

Thats correct Stallion. Not to mention that lb for Army #50, the one that tore SMU's butt up in the AFB, is only listed at 5'10 222.

June Jones mentioned that he was an explosive MLB at the end of this recruiting blurb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4Uo6CmeDDw

Bordano wont start at SMU...He may play special teams. I think it's going to be interesting to see what they do next year between Moreland, Holloway, Wood, and Sanders... All of those kids are big time athletes

Always an angry fan/relative that wants to find the holes. Let me help you put this to rest...coach Jones indicated zach is his running back and that he will find a spot for the others. Do you really believe its in the teams best interest to take the 2nd single season rushing running back...10th leading rusher in country(shawnbrey was 34th...no one 2nd guessed him) and move him someone else in the lineup... also, what gives with this break away speed discussion. Line averages 6.1 a carry...you don't get those averages without breaking a couple...fields fans should be as agreeable as zach and move/play where the coach thinks you would best serve the team. You didn't hear zach complaining when he was move from lb to a blocking back....

I thought for sure Bordano would be starting here soon based on his production as a HS player. He reportedly suffered a non football related injury late in his senior year of HS which he is taking a while to recover from. I hope he returns to form and at least competes for that starting spot in the middle. Early money would have to be on Cameron Rogers but I could see Schick making a play for it ever if he came in as a walkon the guy seems like a player based on his special teams play. Id like to see Bordano in the mix but I think the competition is wide open. I could see moreland getting some PT on the outside. LB might be one of the easiest transitions from HS, Reed and Davis did it nicely in their first years.

breaking a couple runs and break away speed is very different. the 6.1 ypc does not support he has breakaway speed. Zach had a great season, I am not trying to take that away from him. All I am saying is it would be nice to see a change of pace back getting carries as well. A home run threat...
