Let me help you put this to rest...coach Jones indicated zach is his running back and that he will find a spot for the others. Do you really believe its in the teams best interest to take the 2nd single season rushing running back...10th leading rusher in country(shawnbrey was 34th...no one 2nd guessed him) and move him someone else in the lineup... also, what gives with this break away speed discussion. Line averages 6.1 a carry...you don't get those averages without breaking a couple...fields fans should be as agreeable as zach and move/play where the coach thinks you would best serve the team. You didn't hear zach complaining when he was move from lb to a blocking back....

breaking a couple runs and break away speed is very different. the 6.1 ypc does not support he has breakaway speed. Zach had a great season, I am not trying to take that away from him. All I am saying is it would be nice to see a change of pace back getting carries as well. A home run threat...

a la Chris Rainey/ Jeff Demps at UF. These guys will get stuffed 3 straight times on a dive play, and then boom 80 yard strike.

I love Zack Line, he was a very very pleasant surprise, but I would love a speedster to spell him at times.

speedsters are fun, but i'll take 6.1/carry with consistency than 6.1 based on 1 big fast play. gotta have a guy you can go to when it's time to convert on 3rd & 5
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Exactly, thats why it would be nice to be able to use both and to split carries. The two would complement each other very nicely...there is no one on here saying Fields should take zacks job and get all his carries.

I'm not even arguing for split carries. I just want to know that when ABC back steps on the field, he has the ability to blaze down the sideline for an 80 yard TD.

Assuming fields stays healthy...missed tail end of season with injury. Acker did great although.

Whatever...this is a fickle crowd that is still putting more value on the unknown then the known. So glad JJ is decision maker.

Fields will see as much time as zack the second he becomes as good as line is at blocking. Fields has to much pure talent to be kept of the field. Also we need to hope this happens soon or expect a transfer

Watch the Army game and tell me which player missed 2 blocks on 2 game changing plays. Then tell me how good Zach's blocking is.

Watch the Army game, UCF game, and many of the games SMU won - and tell me how many times Padron gets his [deleted] handed to him for holding onto the ball too long. You can throw blame all over the place - but Zach's blocking is damn good for a sophomore LB that just happen to be excelling at HB. Since we're throwing around blame - don't forget to put something on Fields and the other RB's for not being able to carry the load and progress enough to give Zach a rest. You would think that one of the young RBs would be able step up and learn to block as a RB after an entire season.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Funny how this morphed into a Zach Line blocking thread.

I sure hope LiRibeus comes back next year. It would be great to have him and Terrance Wilkerson back.

Zach is our best back and deserves to start. Simply we need another back with break away speed to take it to the house. Defenses can contain Zach because it is unlikely he will take it 50 plus yards. Another back in the line up with great breakaway speed gives us a great 1-2 punch. As good as Zach was this year a faster back may have taken some of those runs to the endzone.

Bordano wont start at SMU...He may play special teams. I think it's going to be interesting to see what they do next year between Moreland, Holloway, Wood, and Sanders... All of those kids are big time athletes

Not sure Bordano's future relates to those guys. I don't know if Moreland will play DE or OLB, but Holloway, Wood and Sanders are all defensive linemen.

Or they could have won the lottery. What's the point of that comment? It's a legitimate point of observation with Line that it's not necessarily the yards he got, it's the yards he didn't get. Yes, he's the best pass-blocking back we have; yes, he averaged over 6 yards a carry, and had an outstanding year especially considering where he was last year.

Having said that, there were numerous runs where he was caught or run down, and a speedier back a-la McNeal would have taken it to the house. Is that Line's fault? No. He's doing everything he can to be a better back. But at the end of the day it's points on the board and W's, and we didn't get enough of either this year.
