SMU won't pay for two coaches in any sport other than football. Rest assured, Coach Doherty will be back.

Doherty will be back based on the strength of the 2011 and 2012 recruiting classes. If he falls flat next season he will be gone.

This year has already been written off by everyone associated with the university.

And doh should be written off as well. That clown is a cancer to our bball program and needs to be radiated. This university has absolutely no pride when it comes to our bball team. If doh is back next year let's just cancel the entire season and let him just sit on his butt.

good call rational poster, let's cancel next years season. Quality post, imo.

Are you going to crush June next year when we go roughly 500 in year 4? lol

Of course not! However, if doh had won his division and played in the final 16 in the 'big dance' (= to winning a fb bowl game) in his second year. Had played for a conference championship and another final 16 showing in his third year we wouldn't be having this discussion. Also, the fb OOC games played were against quality opponents (TT- bowl winner, TCU- bowl winner and # 2 or 3 in the nation) and not schools that barely compete above the high school level. Face it, doh is a failure and a cancer to this school. Sorry if that affects some of your commercial interests.

Get a grip of yourself!!! You don't even know what you are talking about. More than 32 teams can win a bowl game. Only 16 teams make the sweet 16. I would equate winning a minor bowl more along the lines of making it to Madison Square Garden in the NIT, at best one and done in the NCAA tournament. Keep in mind CUSA produces 6 bowl teams each season versus only one NCAA tournament team per season. Your expectations for basketball far exceed those for football.

Keep in mind that the football team is competing with about 120 teams for a spot in a bowl game. That gives them better than a 50% chance of post-season play. Basketball on the other hand has over 300 division I teams.

So you are saying that there are 64 bowl games. :o I don't think so. I thought there were closer to 30-32 which would make 16 winners (plus or minus).
In addition, I wasn't the one to mention JJ. Ponydoh wanted to make that comparison.
In short, do you not agree that the fball team has had more success in the first 3 yrs of JJ than the bball has had in the same time with doh?

and redpony took the bait, exposed himself, and got hammered by a legit response. well played and correct, mustangxc. IMHO, getting to the Garden in the NIT is probably a bunch harder than a minor bowl appearance these days. For SMU to get to the Garden in the NIT, chances are they'd have to beat at least one, if not 2, major conference programs. That's a bunch harder than what we have to do to get to an Armed Forces bowl or whatever

You make yourself look worse with each additional post. Since you are so lost let me break it down for you. There are 35 bowl games this season. As a result there are 70 teams playing in a bowl game. 35 teams will win and 35 teams will lose their bowl games.

I agree that getting to the Garden in the NIT is harder than simply making an appearance in a minor bowl. That is why I said winning a minor bowl game. I think the 2009 Football season would equate to the final four of the NIT. This year's season would be more along the lines of making it to the NIT. After all, Army is a terrible team.

This has to be a fat finger job. SMU football horrible coaches? Huh? Basketball I can understand, but football?

Nowhere in his post did he mention SMU football. He is referencing Bob McNair's Houston Texans from the National Football League coached by Gary Kubiak.

The second and third words do reference SMU football in my opinion.

You sir are correct. I think he meant SMU basketball and that is how I read it. Complaining about SMU football and June Jones seems a little rash at this juncture.
