Patterson On the Ticket this MorningThey asked if it bothered him that his team couldn't play for the national championship and if he would change the system to a playoff.
His response was something along the lines of it doesn't bother him, and if it did he would be selling the rose bowl short. Said they can only control what they can, and the fact that they will be one of two teams that are undefeated at the end of the year is something special. He said he would keep the same format. No one has come up with a better idea that would make it easier for a non-aq to have a shot at a national championship. So he would keep the same BCS system. Wonder what he thought of the system 5 years ago....... He also said the Big East would be tougher than the MWC, would now have to face 5 BYU/Utah teams. But will still continue to recruit the same players. If you say "who cares" about TCU, then you don't care about SMU's future. Know your enemy.....
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morning
big east this year had to have been the worst bcs conference in the history of the bcs.
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this MorningSMU needs to quit worrying about TCU. SMU is 5 years or so behind in terms of internal culture and functionality as related to the football program. Yes, a great model of what to want to be but TCU will not gain much by entering the Big East as further shifts are emminent in collegiate athletics conference alignments and football logistics. This is a short term fix that may yield another BSCS bowl berth but I doubt TCU makes it to any BSCS Championship game while they are in the Big East. As long as SMU continues along its current path - better recruiting, more money, better facilities - it will be served long overdue justice, as seen by many, when it becomes part of a bigger solution to the bowling problems..... Continue to build the model foundation for perenniel successes and within 4-8 years some major changes are looming that will positivley impact the likes of SMU football.
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morningsmu needs to keep winning, keep bowling, keep building a broad and better recruiting base...our time will come.
Step 1 : Learn how to win (done) Step 2 : Learn how to win on the road (done) Step 3 : Expect to win conference games (almost there) Step 4 : Learn how to win Conference championship (lesson learned this year) Step 5 : Expect to win conference championship (goal next year) Step 6 : Learn how to win against the BCS teams (starts next year, WSU notwithstanding) Final step : Expect to beat BCS teams, crash the party, become a national power!!!!!
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this MorningAmen ponykeg. I actually felt bad for UConn. They didn't belong on the same field as OU.
I agree with most of what SMUsportstalknow says. . .except the part about TCU not being in the NC picture in the Big-East. I think if TCU goes undefeated in the Big East, they will definitely be in the NC picture. Beating up on sorry BE programs with a sprinkling of tough non-conference games was a formula that worked for U Miami for years. I agree, however, that the BE is likely a temporary solution for TCU. I am one of those who still thinks the Big-12(10) will explode in a decade or so. Then you will see some big moves.
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morning
While the move to the BE for TCU is probably not permanent, if nothing else, TCU will enjoy a considerable edge in money coming into the school from TV, bowl games, NCAA tournament, etc. CUSA will receive about $6 million from the bowl payouts it's members were in, the one BCS game that the BE is guaranteed pays $17 million plus it's other bowl tie-ins. The BE puts multiple teams into the NCAA tournament.....more dollars to its members. I would guess that they BE televsion contracts are substantially more lucrative than CUSA's deal with CBS-Sports. The window for SMU to truly get its program turned into a dominant non-AQ program is closing quickly. It took years of double digit winning seasons for TCU to gain any kind of natioal respect and so far, we don't look ready to start winning 10-12 games a year beginning with 2011. Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this MorningPatterson, sounds like the student that railed against the fraternity (BCS) system, until he became a member (AQ Big East). Think he would now criticize the system now he is a member of the cartel?
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morning
Not that I'm a fan of anything over in ft. worth, but I don't remember Patterson ever saying anythign negative about the BCS. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morning
He really hasn't - sometimes it's good to remain neutral, keep your mouth shut, and let others do the talking for you. Realistically, what good would "whining" do for the sport? If anything, its effectiveness would be minimal and would further upset the cartel, something you probably don't want to do (never [deleted] off the person whom feeds you). Go Frogs! Pony Up!
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this MorningFroggie- so what you are admitting is that the toads have been BCS lemming for a long time- right?

Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morning
Yes, just as much as SMU, Boise State, BYU, Utah, et all were. Regardless, I don't think it's fair to bring integrity into the argument as it can't be valued effectively. If SMU received an invitation to the ACC, hypothetically of course, would you respectively decline? Go Frogs! Pony Up!

Done! Go Frogs! Pony Up!
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morningfroggie, who is the girl and where can i get one??
I'd bet dollars to donuts Fatterson would be singing a different tune is they weren't headed to the BCS.
Re: Patterson On the Ticket this Morning
Absolutely! He mentioned that on College Gameday though that wouldn't of happened...both TCU and Boise State would have gone BCS bowling assuming that every other game aside from the Nevada game played out as they actually did. In his mind, they were invited to the Rose Bowl (and won!) and thus the system worked. However, had they not been invited...well, that's a whole 'nother story. Go Frogs! Pony Up!
