SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"I contacted Terry Hemme and asked him about purchasing a big block of season tickets, asked whether they'd give a discount for 100-or-so and asked him if the Ticket Office could help get this off the ground. Again, I'd like to sit in the best available seats for <$80/ticket. Right now, the can do that in sec 109-114. Unfortunately, Terry Hemme said that ticket prices are non-negotiable so right now I'm only considering looking at sec 109-114. Without a discount I just don't think we can get enough people to shell out $120/ticket + $37.5/ticket for 1/4 of the MC Donation and $25/ticket for the Group Apparel (see previous post). Not ideal and I know it'd be a step down from a lot of your present season tickets locations, but hopefully the atmosphere and camaraderie will make it worth it.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"the cost of my 2 seasons tickets were something like a 250 MC donation plus like 120 for the season tickets in 102 so roughly 30 bucks a game per ticket is that not in the proposed range?
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"
Regardless of how your well intentioned quest goes, to have that response from your request is absolutely ridiculous. We got a spike from last years bowl game and victory. There is not another one coming unless we become BCS bowl busters. There are just not enough latent SMU fans (alumni or not) hiding in the D/FW area. All the pro teams are struggling, winning records or no. Absolutely, positively incredible response. SMU should be on their hands and knees if (big if) you could deliver 100 season ticket holder who showed some enthusiasm and wanted a section. SMU took a gigantic step backward with regards to any type of development for SMU fans 40 and under when Orsini came aboard. They "allowed" the young alumni development group to have a tailgate for awhile but killed it years ago. Thus we are right back where we were several years ago. _____________________________________

Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"
Just throwing out an idea. We also made the donation to the MC and bought two season tickets. I think we could have bought 4 season. Is there a group in the position where they will make the donation and team up with two other people to purchase the 4 season tickets when MC members need only two tickets? Maybe this way we could start to block off 102 or 106. Just asking. If what I just said is against rules (count me stupid)---I will deny saying it. You can never have too many family members if they are all SMU Alumni!

Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"It's probably better to have the seats in 109 or even the horseshoe anyways. You're close enough to the student section to create a reinforcing effect, and when the opponent has the ball near the horseshoe, there might actually be a homefield advantage. Also, the 106-108 sections tend to have younger alums (with some gray hairs mixed in) because they're cheaper, so they might feed off that energy.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"
Obviously, you don't get it.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"
Mr Burger, that post was 5 pages ago, glad I held your attention. I do have to agree with you , I don't " get ' all the obsessing over a jersey color by Stallion. Seems odd , along with his comment on furniture re arranging... Being a new ( unwelcome it appears ) SMU fan, I do have catching up to do but isn't that a good thing? Don't you old guys want new blood with wallets around? Seems you don't get it as well... " find a new football team " Nice
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"I'll bet a free drink those jerseys weren't a one time thing. Those Atlanta Falcons-- I mean black SMU helmets aren't just going to sit in a closet and gather dust somewhere. June wants black, there will be black.
June also has a clever way of putting a positive PR spin on enacting "cultural" changes. 1.) In order to support the protection of wild and endangered Mustangs, something pretty much everyone is on board with, SMU....BAM has new mascots. 2.) In order to support our Armed Services and servicememebers, something everyone is obviously on board with, SMU...BAM has black jerseys. It's also well-known that June ain't the biggest fan of Peruna, and he does love the color black. Those two things aren't going to go away. Regardless of your opinion on those things, or whether you think I'm a conspiracy nut, I think it's a pretty sly move on his part to ensure the changes he wants are made.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"I think there's one way to save ourselves from the black jerseys.
Dickerson needs to tell June man, yall need to wear those 1981-83 jerseys.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"As a long time fan who attended his first game in 1971 as a five year old kid, I don't get the obsession over colors either. Without throwing tradition completely under the bus, let the kids wear whatever they want.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"Isn't that how we wound up with those awful red NY Jets uniforms in 1997? Didn't Cavan let the team, or at least the seniors, have a pretty large amount of input? I could be off.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"By wearing black you are throwing tradition under a bus...
You need to reevaluate your comment...
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"I think you will find this board similar to most athletics based boards out there. Everyone is welcome, but on this board you have to have thick skin as we (the collective "we") tend to eat our young for no rational reason. Most of us are passionate about the SMU Mustangs, but the details of our passions individually sometimes don't mesh too well. So don't run off...just join in and throw an occasional punch when you feel like it. ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"
No, removing Peruna is throwing tradition under the bus. Not being the best dressed band in the land is throwing tradition under the bus. Removing the Doak Walker statue is throwing tradition under the bus. Wearing black is not throwing tradition under the bus unless it's our tradition here at SMU to be a bunch of collar popping, fashion tv watching pansies.
Re: SMU Needs to Recruit the "Lost Generation"Ok..then I think the band should be dressed in black and white...it looks better on TV....
Where you a band guy?
