They are so good not even his own team could score from one yard out against Rice in 8 tries.
More painful memories. It's too early to be drinking, but thinking about that again makes me want to.

If we had made the one yard, Jones would not be our coach today.

Tech fans are worse than okie state fans.
Unlike a lot of people on here, I don't like Bennett. Think he is pretty much a used car salesman. His defenses at SMU on their best day could never be called anything but average for even a cusa defense.
If it were up to me, he wouldn't be allowed in the state. The farther he is from SMU, the better off we are.
Again, the guy is a used car salesman and I mean that in every sense.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Doob. i think the thing about PB is that he is truly a nice man. and a lot of people on here met him and got to know this. on the field, and in the office, he had no biz being the HC of a college football team. i think he can coach, i don't think he's got what it takes to be the "CEO" of a team.

Yes. Had we won the game we would have gone to a bowl game and Bennett's contract would have been extended. We would not have been searching for a new coach, nor would Bennett been under the "bowl game or out" stipulation. Jones would either be extended at Hawaii until he retired or at Duke or some other school that wanted him in that time frame. Best one yard we ever did not make.

Apparently Bennett will have complete control of the defensive side of the ball. Reports are that he is interviewing the entire defensive staff and will be able to hire, fire or retain all defensive coaches. Probably a mistake because hiring coaches wasn't his strength

I wonder what position Jerry Bennett will be coaching then.

I wonder if any Coach in NCAA history has been a Defensive Coordinator at 8 different schools? Although I consider him a pretty good choice for Baylor, things ended badly at about every single stop if you go back and check. A lot of head coaches have been fired with Bennett as Defensive Coordinator-he got pushed out at A&M, Jim Criner got fired at Iowa St, Fred Akers got fired at Purdue at 2-9, Curley Hallman fired at LSU, 1-11 at TCU got Pat Sulliven fired, Wannstead fired. This guy is a helluva good luck charm. http://pittsburgh.rivals.com/viewcoach. ... &Year=1998

I realize there are some with a lot of angst toward Bennett. I liked him -- by the way Dooby name me a coach who isn't a used car salesman -- and yes, I pretty much called for his dismissal after the TCU debacle in 2007 in Fort Worth. It was clear from that game that he had run his course here.
That said, if you look at the head coaches he worked for, I think those coaches spoke for themselves. Hallman was a mess at LSU from the word go. Sullivan had one bowl team at TCU. I don't even know who Jim Criner is but Iowa State isn't a flagship football school either. Akers was a bad fit at Purdue.
My belief is that with Art Briles, he appears to have Baylor moving in the right direction. But their defense was awful. Briles had to make a change.
I think Bennett is just one of those guys who is good coordinator but a terrible head coach. And that happens.
I wish him well.
