A face from SMU's pastModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower ![]() This is a pic from 1952. This is head coach Rusty Russell, (top) then quarterback Benton Musselwhite, and Wayne Ligon getting off the Mustang Special in Columbus, Mo. SMU won that game. By the way, Ligon is now Dr. Ligon. He is an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor in Dallas. Not bad for a big dumb football player Last edited by ponyte on Tue Aug 24, 2004 9:59 pm, edited 2 times in total.
![]() I need help with this one. I believe this is the 1953 coaching staff. Left to right, J McAdoo Keaton (glasses), [deleted] Peters (?), Head Coach "Woody" Woodward (?), [deleted] Todd (?), and Frank Payne (?) with the headset.
![]() This is from SMU v Baylor, 1953. I haven't a clue who the Baylor back is and don't care. The flying Mustang is Frank Eidom (40). In the background are Ponies Jack Gunlock (50) who was also a Co-Captain that year, Duane Nutt (15), Bill Fox (52) and Darrell Lafitte (62). Lafitte was an Academic All American that year. SMU lost that day 27-21.
![]() Here is one more in theme with this week's event. Also, one by request by Mrydel. This is from the 1979 SMU vs Texas Tech game in Texas stadium. Clement Fox (86) is the Pony. SMU beat Tech that day 35-10. Go Ponies, beat Tech!
![]() Mac White runs for yardage against Texas in 1963. #1 Texas won 17 - 12, and went on to beat #2 NAVY, and Roger Staubach in the Cotton Bowl game. SMU had beaten NAVY 32 - 28 earlier for its only regular season loss. SMU with a 4 - 6 record got an invitation to the Sun Bowl, and lost to Oregon 21 - 14. ![]() This is from the 1953 SMU - Rice game. SMU was behind with less than 3 minutes left in the game. Frank Eidom ran 91 yards from the SMU 5 to the Rice 4. This set up a game winning TD by Duane Nutt. This picture is from a play prior to Nutt's scoring play. From left to right, standing Jerry Norton (44), in the line Ed Bernet (89) who was All SW team, Don "tiny" Goss who was College All-Christain Sportsman and All Regional team, Darrell Lafitte (62), Bill Fox (52), Jerry Clem (71) and on the far right is the great Forrest Gregg (73). The back is (I think) Hal O'Brien (20). Forgive me Ponyfans.comers. I have made a grave mistake. This is NOT from the Rice game. It is a pic of the 1953 SMU vs. Missouri game. SMU won 20-7. All above-mentioned personnel are correct except for the back scoring the TD. The back is the fullback Dale Moore (25). Last edited by ponyte on Sun Sep 05, 2004 8:38 pm, edited 2 times in total.
