The official Josh Pastner should resign thread...

Postby Mitch McConnell » Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:20 pm

Well, shouldn't he after he watched SMU go on a -- what 17-0 run -- to flip this game?

Never saw this coming. I wrote something snide on the pregame deal that was ultimately deleted. And I really meant it.

But congratulations to the kids and to Matt Doherty.

I still want Doherty fired because he's done nothing here. His claim to fame here is these two wins. So I have to apologize for congratulating them?

You've blasted Doherty time after time. So you're not virgin white either, sir.

You even called this job a graveyard. So just keep it up and be two-faced. Im sure you gladhand those within the program and then come on this board and spread your own brand of poison.

Congratulations to the kids and to coach Doherty.

Blah, you're a hater. Nobody loves Doherty, but I stand by the program. You just spew venom, don't watch, have no idea who our players are, who we're recruiting etc. You gave up years ago, so any congrats you give is hollow nonsense.

Those that I speak with in the program, know my handle, and hear my complaints in my own voice when we speak. Two-faced is pretty far from accurate. More like brutally honest with them

I won't argue with what you said. Very accurate. When a coach kills a program like this one has even some of the diehards reach their end. And I was as die-hard as they came up until the TCU game 3 years ago over Fort Worth. Thus, he took the reason for me to remain interested.

I would just appreciate if you refrain from the traditional tiresome argument of "I'm a better fan than you are because I know XXXXX, and you don't.'' Please find another way.

That said, congratulations to the kids and Matt Doherty -- hollow as some may deem it. Insert rolling eyes here.

And as an aside, I'm kind of losing my passion for college basketball in general. I'm just not into it like I used to be for the last two years. I know Duke is No. 1 and Ohio State is No. 2. After that, I have no idea.

I started watching Pitt and G'Town tonight and about halfway through it, I turned it to something else. Just wasn't interested. Gophers play Purdue Thursday night. Maybe I'll watch it. Maybe not.

College basketball just isn't the game that it was. I'm very sad that I've starting feeling this way because I always loved conference games.

It's your program, support it. Its not the kids fault that Doh is less than stellar. I'm not a better fan, I'm just an addict, and I've never seen top 25 ball at SMU. Sucking doesn't really get under my skin anymore. So, I'm gonna support who wears the uniform until I get a Top 25 team. When that day comes, I'll be insufferable

I'm that way about football now, both college and pro. Love the tailgate, but I'm not into 60 minute games that take 4hrs to play. Need more pace than that. Massive waste of a Saturday/Sunday when you've got young kids

I saw it in 1987-88 with that 28-7 team that won the SWC regular season and conference titles, knocked off Florida at Reunion, beat Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA tournament and took Duke to the 6-minute mark of the second half.

The 1999-2000 team had a chance until it melted down in that week against TCU and Tulsa -- from then on, it's been a slide.

I supported the program when donated to the constuction of Crum -- modest as it was -- and that night in Fort Worth just convinced me this wasn't going to get any better. Heck I drove over from Fort Worth on several occasions to watch Doherty's stupid radio show in downtown Dallas. And the nights I didn't go, I had it on in my headphones.

Last year, I went to the Houston, Marshall and Tulsa(?) games. It just didn't feel like this thing had anything behind it nor could you see there was anything hopeful. Call me jaded, but as enthusiastic as I am for this class, I'm sobered by the reality of the atmosphere they are walking into -- provided he stays. And I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Maybe I'm the same way because my girls are playing BB now, and I really enjoy watching them just beginning with the sport.

You know UNLV is on right now against San Diego State. And as I'm writing this, my TV is off. What does that tell you...there is a growing disconnect between me and the game.
Oh, and I hate the NBA. I refuse to watch it. I know the Mavericks are having a good season. I know Dirk is out. Caron Butler is out. Have no idea what their record is.

These things tend to go in cycles. You can only throw yourself into something for so long (unless it is your job) before you get emotionally burnt out. Happened to me after the Mavs lost the Finals. I have never been able to get back into it. I still watch some of the games and cheer for them, but I am not the diehard i once was.
