Recruits are looking at other schools....OMG! Panic!

Well, it's that time of year again. It's mid-January. Feb. 2 seems like an eternity. And recruiting geeks, suffering from knuckleheaditis, scour over every web site known to man to read into every quote and nugget of infomation that either convinces them their school's commitments are safe or about to bail on them.

Faith in the coaching staff is up and down. Do these guys really have the hutzpah to close these kids down? Shouldn't we personally send coaches to the kids house/school, tie the kid to a post until Feb. 2 and shove the SMU LOI in his face and say, "Sign this or else...''

Stemming from frustration, badmouthing of the kids who are now looking elsewhere and taking visits elsewhere starts to surface. Some fans take it personally because they love their school and think that the commitments should love the school just as much as they do. "Well, I never liked that kid anyway." or "His character is all you need to know about him" or "If you think about it, this kid wasn't an upgrade anyway.''

Praise for a kid who states he's locked into the school follows with such comments. "I can't wait to see him on campus.'' or "He's definitely going to be a plus for this program" or "I never doubted for a second his devoted to the school.''

And then on the Monday before signing day, extreme paranoia sets in. Is everybody going to sign? And then during the day when some LOIs come and some haven't been confirmed, it will be "Where is so-so's letter? Did he switch?" The anxiousness is palpable.

I can't wait to read more until Feb. 2.

Haven't you heard Carter Wall's Facebook page says every one of his friends wants him to go to TCU because he looks cool in Lizard skinned football pants.

Its a byproduct of going after highly caliber players. I'm sure TCU has been dealing w/ this for the better part of a decade. We'll keep a few and we'll lose a few. In the end its going to be a very good class by CUSA standards.

We got nothing on SEC schools when it comes to recruiting hysteria. It's about the only thing to look forward to until Spring ball, so let us have our fun.

You're lucky I didn't choose to go with the GREAT Jesse Helms for my new identity. He was under consideration.

Let the freak out factor continue.

I gotta agree with George S Patton, err, Mitch McConnell, recruiting scares the Hades out of me. recruits are visiting other schools and we know other schools have a better looking campus and hot chicks galore. And our coaching staff never has been able to recruit a top 5 recruiting class since coming to SMU. And oh my gosh we have to mention Darth Turner. May the force of not being able to get a recruit into SMU be with you. Our campus is a disaster after that crummy bowl game, kids are looking at other schools. And we wore those hideous black jerseys for the ARB. The ones kids love but alums hate and therefore will attribute bad recruiting to bad taste in uniforms.

Oh Lordy I fear signing day.

"Better looking campus and hot chick galore" - I remember SMU as a great looking campus with lots of fine looking chicks at the pool. Did something change?

Yes, the weather. No hot chicks by the pool right now as recruits come to the campus.
