SMU Final ranking on CFN #61Criteria
The Formula's Components: 1. Wins. - If you win, everything else falls into place. Each win counts as 1. 2. Quality Wins - The number of wins over teams that finished with a winning record. Each win counts as 1. 3. Elite Wins - The number of wins over teams that finished with two losses or fewer. Each win counts as 1 with a road win over an Elite team getting an extra 0.5. Also counting as 1 is a road win over a team that finished with three losses or fewer (but the extra 0.5 isn't added). A win over a team that finishes with three losses in a bowl game counts as one. 4. Bad Loss - The number of losses to teams that finished with three wins or fewer or a loss to a FCS (DI-AA) team. Each loss counts as minus-1. Take away an additional 0.5 for a Bad Loss at home. 5. Bad Win - The number of wins to teams that finished with three wins or fewer, or a win over a D-IAA team. Each win counts as minus 0.25. 6. Elite Loss - The number of losses to teams that finished with two losses or fewer. Each loss counts as 0.25. 7. Point Differential - Points for minus points against divided by 100. 8. Winning Percentage - To take losses into account, winning percentage is in the mix. Total wins is the tie-breaker followed by winning percentage. 61. SMU (7-7) 2010 CFN Score: 8.51 2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 87 CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 5-7 2009 Final Ranking: 61 2009 Final Score. 9.33 2008 Final Ranking: 114 2008 Final Score: -1.69 Key Stat: SMU was 111th in the nation in turnover margin. SMU might not have taken a huge step forward, but it was another solid season under June Jones winning seven games and going bowling. Losing the Conference USA title game and the Armed Forces Bowl to Army put a sour taste on the finish, but for a program still rising from mediocrity, 2010 showed that the success should be here to stay as long as Jones is around. Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61Top 25 in everything but football & basketball
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61As high as #36 in some 2011 preseason polls.
Remember, only 6-5 in '85 & '86. I'd say that's progress, as long as coaches, alumns and administration are cohesive. Keep Darius Johnson and get a quick RB to compliment Zach Line and you're lookin' good......
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61Feeling good about next year. First time I've felt this good since the Spring before Cavan's second year.
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61I think we're going to be a pretty salty bunch next season too. We've got a tough road to travel with road games against Aggy, TCU, Houston, and Tulsa but that's why June makes 2M plus a season. We have a lot of guys coming back and the caliber of recruits coming in continues to get better and better. We're not there yet. 2012 and 2013 IMO is when we blow the doors off this thing. Also if you look at our basketball roster for 2012-2013 we ought to be pretty nasty.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61Compared to 2009, 2010 stepped up the difficulty of schedule quite a bit. I think they *did* improve, even if the record took a step back. I think head up, the 2010 squad would have beaten the 2009 squad.
2011 steps up the difficulty of schedule again. I'm not quite sure what I expect in terms of record. But another year with a bowl I think represents significant progress. It's really hard to tell this far in advance, but I think that 2011 is the year when the schedule reaches it's "terminal difficulty" so to speak (at least for as long as we're in CUSA). Stallion doesn't think I'm a stinkin' genius anymore.
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61With the turnover situation the way it was this year, I feel 61 is a very solid improvement. We will be better in all aspects next year including turnovers.
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61Beats the Hell out of a hundred something
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61next year's team will feature a senior laden OL and DL along with a 3rd year QB being pushed for playing time by others on the roster. If some of the young WRs, LBs and DBs step up I expect 2011 to be a really fun year for SMU fans
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61Unless Acker or Parks show good improvement in the offseason, I wouldn't be surprised to see a secondary lineup like in the bowl game. Smith at corner and Sorrell at safety.
SMU Final ranking on CFN #61I think it will be parks and a juco at the corners. I thought I read somewhere that smith at corner was primarily due to the trip option run support defense.
Derail the Frogs!
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61June is very high on Acker, every luncheon when someone would ask about who are younge guys he sees stepping up next year he mentioned Acker. plan to see him in the starting 11 next year
Re: SMU Final ranking on CFN #61
Crawford will have one spot.

Forgot about him somehow. You're entirely correct. Derail the Frogs!
