I'm glad you posted these questions, because I had the two backwards.

The one who looks like a Don I assumed was Mangino. That's actually Hobbie. The other guy is Mangino.

Mangino was most recently w/ the Denver Nuggets as a player development guy and was an asst at Air Force. MustangBill tells me he was a color commentator also at some point.

Hobbie was most recently an asst to Penders at Houston. Interesting fact about him from smumustangs.com: His father Ernie Hobbie is a renowned shooting coach and the original "Shot Doctor", consulting many NBA and collegiate players for more than five decades. Maybe dad gave us some retooling in the free throw department

Mangino was a color analyst on the Mtn. network before coming to SMU.

Mangino would make a pretty good head coach, if he can recruit/close. Guy has the Xs and Os down.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

makes you wonder who drew up the well executed last two plays of the game.

PSS I enjoyed the game (except for the outcome) and felt our players worked hard, played hard and did many things well. With 4 fouls on both of UH's big men, I would have liked to see us pound it inside more.

Do we have the best players in CUSA, I don't know. Are there better players on our bench? I don't know.

I do know they hustled and seemed well prepared.

With UofH missing both of their big men, and using only seven players, you would think we should win at home.

I dont know, I've been outspoken about my displeasure regarding Doh..but...Papa played one of his best games ever, IMO, as one would expect with only Van Slyke to go up against...Nuk had 22...we were in a position to win, but did not. Free throws and three pointers. I didnt leave today thinking that James Dickey out x'd and o'd Doh (or Mangino). As OTP will point out, there was nary a Doh foot stomp either..only the near-miss on Mangrum's 2nd offensive interference call.

I am not a fan of BB. This was my first SMU game to witness in person in over 3 decades. Don't watch the NBA and rarely watch March Madness. The only BB I have seen recently are my girls 3rd, 4th and 5th grade games some time back.

I had a great time watching SMU play today. It was a clean, hard played game by both teams. No embarrassing mistakes that happen over and over. And SMU overcame some adversity (couldn't buy an outside shot) and had a chance to win at the end.

I do not proclaim to be even remotely close to an expert in BB so others will have far more and insightful comments than I.

But I sure enjoyed being at the game today.

Houston game

ImageWith 5 seconds left in the game a two point difference you ask me to sit down Pony_Fan. ? They'll get the same FU every time. I wasn't drunk enough to stumble up the stairs like you did last week. LOL.. thought I missed that didn't you.

I probably shouldn't make any noise when the apposing team shoots foul shots because it would offend others around me and possibly begin to resemble a college basketball game.

If you look just above the Red Mustang, 3rd row, you can see Ponyte in the light colored shirt and mrydel in the light blue shirt leaning over to hear some of Ponyte's expert commentary.

Sorry we missed you also OTP. We waited out front for all you guys but apparently you went out the side door or beat us out of the building. It was nice to get to wave at all of you.

I had received all the half time promotion emails but did not keep them since I did not anticipate being able to go. I thought they had them at all of the home games.

All in all it was a fun trip other than the last shot not dropping. The team ran a much more organized offense than I have seen in years. Hope to do it again soon and I thank Ponyte for the opportunity to travel with him and his lovely daughter.
