Incorrect. Chris decided he wanted to go visit some other schools. The coaches decided they weren't going to hold a spot for him. Chris was understandably shocked when his offer was pulled. Don't care if you think I'm funy or not, but that's a FACT. Believe whatever you want. You can lead a horse (or Mustang) to water, but you can't make him drink.

The rest is just speculation on my part. I can't say for sure whether the coaches decided they didn't want him – lack of commitment, thought they could upgrade using the ship elsewhere, I just don't know. I also don't know if he could really get it back or not. I would assume so, but maybe not.

the recruiting game has changed dramaticaly over the past several years. With everbody holding camps and trying to get their classes filled early via "verbal commitments", it makes it tough on any coaching staff to hold a scholarship open for a guy who is undecided. Granted, if a guy is talented enough, exceptions are going to be made and it is interesting that Bennett wouldn't hold this offer open...but it is tough to go recruit someone else and tell him "we might have a spot for you if Chris changes his mind". I expect this decision was both an emotional response to losing a stud hoss who had previously committd...and Bennett's way of saying we have to get on with our business of filling nexzt year's class.

There are still a lot of guys out there whose senior seasons will dictate whether they get offers. I'm assuming our coaches saw a lot of guys in the July camps that caught their attention and will get a closer look before final decisions are made.

As for Chris Hall, it sounds like, from his comments, that he was pretty solid on OSU so it's time to move on. Losing him hurts, but gaining a commitment from Enright so soon after that announcement sure helps.

I'm sorry Punch, but if your story is true its even crazier than I thought. So this top recruit didnt decommit after all, he just said he wanted to visit other places that were offering him? Didnt Vincent Chase do exactly the same thing last year, visiting other schools after he had committed to SMU? His offer wasnt pulled, was it? And in the end Vincent honored his initial commitment and became a Mustang. So, yeah, I beat Chris was pretty surprised, and I doubt seriously if there is any chance he would ever consider coming back. Once again I'm going to ask you the question you never answered, why would he want to come back after all this?

Usually when someone says that something is a fact (in capitol letters, no less,) they have some kind of evidence to back up or substantiate their claim. I'd be really interested to hear yours. Did you get this info from someone on the coaching staff, and if so did they explain why the offer was pulled? How exactly do you know this is what happened? I am not at all disputing the sequence of events, just want to know how you know.

I'm disputing the sequence of events - not that it matters. SMU does not pull an offer from a top 100 (whose brother plays for us !!) because he looks around. We pull because he decommits. Nothing else makes sense, unless it is grades, which still does not make sense because we will look the other way for a top 100 anytime.

gostangs,

Like I said, believe whatever you want. After posting on PonyFans for several years, I've learned that some people will argue anything despite the facts. Hey, I admit this situation sounds a little far fetched. But I try to be pretty clear and differentiate between rumors I hear, my personal (and admittedly unprofessional) observations, and facts I learn from people who know better than we do.

Uncle Morty,

I spoke to someone who was personally involved in the situation, and was there when this occurred.

Yeah, the Vincent Chase situation from last year also immediately came to my mind. Not sure why they reacted differently in this case. Last year, Vincent told a reporter friend of mine that he was only going to see other schools so that he could travel around a bit. And I think he was up front with the coaches about that. The reason I believe that is because last year when we were all freaked out about Vincent going to other schools, I talked to someone who knows him, and he was completely confident that Vincent was going to be a Mustang. No question in his mind whatsoever. Absolutely zero concerns. Maybe the difference is that Chris was really waffling on his commitment, whereas Vincent just wanted to enjoy some of the perks of being a top recruit.

As for why Chris would want to come here: it's obvious that Chris wanted to be a part of what the Mustangs are building. And as you know, his brother and all his best friends all play for the Mustangs.

I'll quietly hold out hope that all the Irving Boys (and Mitch Enright, and whoever else we get) will convince Chris to come back into the fold. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hoping.

Although I don't know what was on the coaches minds when they 'pulled' teh offer, 1 thing to remember is that there are not many scholarships to offer next February.
How many Seniors on this year's team, 9-10?

you are forgetting Meeks, McGee, Smith and other guys that are gone for whatever reasons. There will undoubtedly be more and my guess is that 17-18 new players will be offered before all is said and done

Charleston, my count may be low. But I understand that some of the Meeks/MCgee/Smith, schol have been extended to guys like Mouton & some walkons from previous seasons. I hope you're right, though...

I heard somewhere that with attrition, we'll have over 20. I find it hard to believe, but that's what someone told me.

After reading all your posts on this subject, I'm still trying to find one fact that you stated, much less facts. If you want people not to argue with you, you need to back you info up with something other than "trust me I know."
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.
