Quarterbacks

Postby Mike Damone » Mon Aug 23, 2004 10:44 am

Anoyone know of any QB's we're pursuing. With the departure of Ricky Joe Meeks and no quarterbacks in the freshman class, we pretty much have to get a solid one this year. I'd like to see at least one quality QB recruit sign with us every year.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Probably the biggest names are Odessa's Shea Smith & Denton Ryan's Justin Willis.

Also Duane Brooks from Irving MacArthur and Chandler Dane from Decatur amoung other. Assume Young at Irving could be included, but could find info.

Stephen Hodge, QB, 5-11, 180, 4.6, Tatum, Texas, who is #82 on SuperPrep's list just out has SMU, La Tech, Mo. Bay, HOU, and A$M on his list. All have offered. Doesn't have a favorite. :D

Forgive me if I get about as excited over 5'11 quarterbacks as over 5'8 or 5'9 corners. It is nice to be wrong, though.

Concerning a 5'11" QB,who is highly rated out of High School, remember Josh Fields who put Oklahoma State in the win column.

RGV, it would be great to have a 6-4 QB w/ 4.4 40 yd, but as I recall SMU missed out on a TX HS QB under 6' when he left for Purdue-- oh yeah, Drew Brees....

not to mention the 6'5 guy they actually got to the hilltop...then let go down I-45 to Huntsville.

I also happen to be partial to the 6'4 220 guy we have now.

You and me both! I think Phillips has a chance to be a really special player. Imagine what he'll do when he has time to learn everything.

I didn't realize all those schools had offered.
But I also thought I read that Hodge isn't being recruited as a QB, that he's being recruited as an athlete, meaning he might end up playing safety or something. Or do I have him mixed up with someone else?

I have always said that Phillips is a special player. Most QBs with his size, speed, and skill end up at UT, A&M, Miami, FSU.......
All Pony fans should be very excited that he will be calling the signals for the next three years.

according to Rivals SMU has offered two QBs-Daniel Raudabaugh of Coppell who has already committed to Miami-Ohio and Justin Willis of Denton Ryan. Right now the pickings at QB for SMU are pretty small potatoes.

I think I remember hearing that SMU might still be in on the Coppell QB. Was there a change in his status, or some other reason that he was wanting to stay local?

RecruitingGuru, have you heard anything or can you confirm?

I'm not sure if the Coppell kid has significant experience as a starter in high school-so he's definitely not a first tier recruit-still he must have shown something somewhere to get offers with little game experience.

I would love to know why a 6'4 QB from Coppell would go to Miami-Ohio instead of SMU..Obviously Mia-Ohio is a successful program but usually if youre going to leave home, usually its to a bigger time program than that unless you have no offers within a 4 hour drive..

The Coppell kid didnt start last year at Coppell..As for Hodge, knowing how difficult it is to make the jump from high school to college for a QB, i dont know about reaching for a 5'11 guy from a 3A school if you can help it..You may reach at db and be ok by numbers, but you cant reach for QBs every year..

Miami (OH)

Postby Boston Pony » Wed Aug 25, 2004 4:05 pm

Great school, great program, great girls... Miami of Ohio has a solid academic rep, good football program, and the best coeds in the north. Actually, I would equate Miami with SMU on many points - academics and campus (look much alike). What the poor kid hasn't experienced is a cold winter morning walk across campus.
