Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next yearFor the first time in a long time I not hopeful but confident in the direction of our hoops program. I've never liked doh and think he should be fired based on wasting our money and time alone. But putting the past behind us, I think this program for the first time since I've followed the team (started college in '05) has a system in place and depth to make a serious run in CUSA. GO MUSTANGS.
EDIT: By make a run at CUSA I mean next year. This year I would like to see the team play with passion and pride and see the system develop. 2009 Ponyfans Rookie of the Year
Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next yearWhat does it mean when you and I -- who on last Saturday wanted to throw daggers at each other -- are now in agreeance on particular matters?
I think what it means is that we both care about the program and are praying that someday it will turn favorably -- someday. BTW, I stayed up to watch Arizona and Washington last night. Maybe the vibe is coming back. Seems like Sean Miller is turning them around in spite of the loss. Oh and [deleted] Bo Ryan and his [deleted] Red Army. Go Mustangs! Go Gophers! Maybe that mayan calendar was right, after all.
Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next year
tap the brakes, big timer. Excellent roster for SMU, but 7 or 8 of those kids have never played a college game. Just get 20 wins for the first time in forever, then buy into the CBI, maybe even NIT. The year after, lets start the NCAA hype “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones

I think I would cry if we got a win in the tournament ..haha

Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next year
Agreed tap the brakes, but never played a college game?.... but these high ranked players have played on high level AAU teams at all the big tournaments around the country and are closer to playing in NCAA than just a jump up from 5A Basketball. Now getting kids that play year round from Kimball against the best DFW has to offer year round, are so much closer to playing D-1 ball than getting kids from West Texas IMHO.Freshman Basketball players nowadays CAN jump in and play at a high level in D-1 at an earlier point than in years past. The Top 25 teams all have freshman contributers that step up quickly.
Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next year
Oh, yeah, SMU of all places had such unique and terrifying circumstances to overcome. Poor ol' SMU. So screwed up no one could fix it. Tell me, did we not have a gym, a sufficient supply of basketballs? ![]() Not a dig at Doherty, but at the attitude of "experts" who continue to see SMU as an unfathomable pit, hopelessly inept. SMU is - and has been - a gem compared to many programs that turn things around. Put the ball in the d*mn hole! ( ![]()

think what you want, but that doesn't make it true. SMU deserved what it got, and soon we'll see the other side. If you did what I do for a living, you'd know this isn't up for debate. There aren't many, if any programs I can think of, that had SMUs rep 5 years ago. This wasn't about money, facilities or conference affiliation “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next year
Agreed, but you aren't looking for contributions, you are looking for the sophs & frosh to eat pretty much all the minutes, and account for all your productivity, other than Nyakundi. Its going to take a minute to season them, which is why we'll probably see another garbage schedule “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. I think thte garbage schedule will actauuly be fun to watch as these 2011 heralded players hone their skills and gel as a unit.
Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next yearNo way SMU fans should expect SMU to compete for CUSA upper crust, small time tourney next year without experienced upperclassmen. Have some patience. There is definitely an infusion of talent but they aren't the Fab 5 either. We've seen this scenario several times before-it takes 2-3 years of maturity and development even with great recruit and great coaching. Look at Baylor, look a A&M, look at the SMU teams under Koncak/Davis/C. Wright and Sasser/Davis
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next yearOf the Top 160 athletic programs, these 4 have gone the longest without an NCAA tourney appearance:
Rice – 1970 Marshall – 1987 Oregon State – 1990 SMU – 1993 I’m telling you, the farther we can distance ourselves from Rice, the better. And Stallion, please don’t say SMU may be in the Tourney next year, I dare you.
Question: what will be the likely starting 5 next yearYou left off northwestern, which has never danced...
That may change this year...
