More lunacy

The other board is reporting that Florida quarterback Brock Berlin is transferring, and that his list of teams is down to Texas Tech, LSU and SMU.

Do not believe it. If he transfers - and that is far from a done deal - SMU will not be among the schools he considers. Smart money is on LSU, which is in his home state, has very good receivers, is in the SEC and has a senior quarterback this year in Rohan Davey.

In the end, I bet he stays right where he is.

If it is true, then mark LSU off the list. He isn't going to beat out Mauke who is mature at 22, is big and tall, can pass, and is of that new breed of QB who is an offensive weapon running the ball. Also, Casey Clauson's little brother is redshirting at QB. As a poster on the other board said, he may not want to get in the middle of that competition.

If he wanted to play immediately and put up some great number, SMU would seem to be as good place as any and not far from family & friends in Shreveport. Probably a long shot, but who knows?

"It's all abour relationships," said Bennett. Perhaps there is someone Berlin or his parents know at SMU that they trust. Where was Bennett when Brock was being recruited out of HS? Bennett mentioned north LA being a target area in recruiting. His brother has coached for years just a few miles from Shreveport. We don't know who knows who in this deal or who has made informal phone calls to who on behalf of Berlin or Bennett. Bennett said himself that recruiting was all about relationships. Who knows what he had in mind when he said that?

Again, a long shot, but we don't know all the facts about who knows who. When you are desparate to play and you feel like your whole career is going before very eyes while you watch on the sidelines, you will play anywhere that you get a good chance to play. Where was Hybel, last year's national champ OU QB playing when Stoops found him? North Dakata Southwestern Eastern Central State College or something like that.

I must be tired at the end of an all-nighter in the ER. The more I think about it, the more I realize that it is so improbable that Berlin is leaving Florida that it is silly to even talk about the possibility of him coming to SMU. We just need to go get about 10 more excellent recruits to match the super ones we already have. I look forward to seeing what the coaching staff will look like. Welcome to the Hilltop, Coach Bennett.

Berlin was quoted earlier this week as saying he was "thinking about" transferring, and there was immediate speculation that he would come back closer to home (fueling rumors that LSU, La Tech & SMU were possibilities). Berlion said he planned to talk to coach Spurrier before making any decision.

Thanks, for the info, my South Carolinian friend. I had a feeling you would have some of the inside scoop on this SEC item. There are many "if's" still in this deal. Hopefully, he will consider us. If it is all about relationships, you never know who Spurrier can chase down on the phone and arrange a transfer for Brock. But, I would bet if I were a betting man, that some day we will be seeing Mr. Berlin in a Gator uni leading his team in a SEC Championship game.

We can end this thread. Just heard from a reliable source that Berlin is going to transfer to Valdosta St. Makes a lot of sense because he doesn't lose a year of elgibility and they pass for about 500 yards a game. Of course, Division 2 makes a lot of sense anyway. THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A PLAYOFF SYSTEM TO DETERMINE WHO THE REAL NATIONAL CHAMPION IS!
