Yesterday, was in Dallas and stayed on a stopover flight. Rented a car and went by the campus.
Things that I Love about SMU:
* Campus - most beautiful in the country. We have been looking at schools for my son and there are none better. Have been on UNC, Duke, Harvard, Yale, Syracuse, Northwestern, and a bunch of pretty NE schools but they just don't match up.
* Size - 8-10k is perfect. Large enough to offer a mix of majors, small enough to be personal.
* Location - City setting in a park environment. Convenient area. Coffee shops, cafes, & shops to walk to. Short drive to more shopping, clubs and the City.
* Academics - Good school without the pretension of the NE schools. Some great classes without busting your butt 24/7.
* The girls - sexist but true - these girls are all beautiful, intelligent and friendly - I remember it fondly.
* Athletics - when I was there, the FB team was competitive (1-1-1 against OCC of Penn State, Ohio State & Florida) We lead the nation in attendance growth and had more fans at a couple of the games than the Cowboys. Now the chance to win the conference is much improved, BB is really coming on and the "Olympic" sports and some of the best in the country. The facilities are 1st rate and the Support of The Program is its highest level in years.
Now I'm done, how about others. What do you love about SMU?

The smell of the Mrs. Bairds bakery on crisp fall mornings.
What about driving down the blvd. at night past the quad on your right hand side with Perkins on your left, and turning around with the flagpole and the view of Dallas Hall in the distance. Gorgeous, nothing else like it.
Southern Methodist is a great place to learn and grow up. I'm glad other folks are as passionate about this school and the atmosphere it embraces as I am.
Go Mustangs!!!

The consistant architecture of the red brick buildings and the inside of Moody. I love the old school college arena feel.

All reasons that I applied Early Access to SMU - but you forgot the quality of women on campus, and the fact that the campus rivals UVa for beauty, but is just a bus ride away from the clubs of Deep Ellum. SMU is an all around #1 choice, especially for prospective Business majors like me.

Grider: Don't know if you have heard or not, but Mrs. Baird's baked its last loaf at the Mockingbird Lane location a few weeks ago. That property will soon become condos.

You are correct. However, supposedly we will be incorporating most of the existing Bairds structure into the new structure. Supposedly this will rival Mockingbird Station as far as niceness goes. I don't know how they are going to incorporate the Baird's structure into the overall design, but that is why I'm not an architect or engineer.

No, I missed that, but it truly is an injustice. They do say that smells are one of the strongest memory triggers, and it's fair to say that every time I've caught a whiff of Mrs. Bairds, it took me back to my days on the hilltop. I will miss that beautiful aroma.
