Dallas WR high on Ponies

Postby Lotus » Sun Aug 29, 2004 3:09 pm

Saw this on Insiders:

South Oak Cliff wide receiver Derrick Williams said he's looking at anybody and everybody but he did give us a few teams he's very interested in. We talk about that and grab his thoughts on the team with a slight lead at this point in the game...

"I'm wide-open," Williams said. "But I guess the teams I'm the most interested in right now would be SMU (offer), Texas Tech, Nebraska, A&M, Kansas, U of H, University of Utah and LA Tech (offer)."

That's eight schools with one sticking out just a bit more than the others, at least at this stage of the game.

"I guess SMU leads because they've offered me," Williams said. "I mean, I want to take my time, take some visits, but would I go there? Yes, I'd go there in a heartbeat and they are high on my list."

Anyone else close to offering?

"Kansas has been talking about (offering) recently," said the 6-1.5, 178-pound WR. "And Utah may also."

Derrick Williams
Ht: 6-1.5 Wt: 178 40: 4.6
Position: WR
Projected as: WR
Dallas (South Oak Cliff HS), Texas

Biography:
Notes: Williams is an above average wideout with above average speed. He lacks the name recognition of other pass-catchers in the Lone Star State and doesn't boast the 4.5 (or faster) speed some have. That said, the South Oak Cliff prep can play receiver and will go D-I...

Schools of Interest:
Houston, Kansas, Louisiana Tech (offer), Nebraska, SMU (offer), Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah

Depending on who provided those measurements (e.g. Nike camp), this guy might be someone who normally lists as 6'2 185 4.5. Sounds good to me. Hopefully Burns's system is another thing that will appeal to him.

The more I hear about it, the more I get the sense that Coach Burns's system is one that will appeal to a LOT of WRs.
