Wanted to get this for our Blvd helmet display but today it officially zoomed past our price range. Oh well I hope whoever wins the auction will display it sometime on the Blvd so other SMU fans can enjoy it.

Just get some stick on letters and make one yourself... most people on the boulevard - in their altered state - will never know the difference - and most will ask "Who's Bob Hope?"

Already up to $455 with two days left. Dutch it would look nice at the 1st & 10 and would be a writeoff.

Is this verified to be from Bob Hope's estate? I saw an unconvinceing letter from Fry but nothing to indicate a purchase from Bob's estate.

It says so right across the front. Why would you doubt that?

I have verified that it says Bob Hope on the front, so it must be true. If you will buy it, I will keep it at my house for you.

How do I know this isn't YOUR helmet? Which might be worth more than Bob's to some.

I was often mistaken for Bob Hope, and that does look like the name they put on my helmet during 2 a days. Yes, you have figured out the true story behind the helmet. I will be glad to give you a letter of authenticity when you buy it and bring it to me to hold for you.

Ah, so the 'm' in 'mrydel' stands for Mustang. That looks like the first name on the helmet. I should have figured that out long before now.

I cannot answer the why but he did like SMU and made many appearances there. He filmed a TV special at Meadows while I was in school and he invited the athletic teams to the dress rehearsal the night before the premier. Seeing Michelle Lee in a see through outfit having "forgotten?" to wear any undergarments was very nice. Over the years he did many things there but I do not know the direct tie that he had. I am sure someone does.
