New Low in DMN coverage?

Postby gostangs » Sun Jan 30, 2011 10:50 am

I know it gets old complaining about coverage - but today is the worst ever. I searched three times before I found the two small print paragraphs about our game vs Rice. I didnt expect front page - but no article at all?

Anyone have an e-mail link to the editor? That should not go unasnwered.

It is depressing, but we (SMU and Rice) have historically been terrible. The more we start winning, the more coverage we'll get.

That was pretty sad coverage. Here's the write up in the H Chron.

There was no AP coverage in my DMN...... Just a box score. That's it. And that sucks.

I just got home from out of town and looked and looked and finally found...I usually don't complain about the DMN, but this is BS.....you usually get what you deserve in coverage, but this I am mad about.....SMU deserves more than a box score....give me a break.
Lets send out e-mails and phone calls.....they DO have a basketball beat writer that should have covered this.

Screw the coverage. I'm just enjoying the improvement and wins right now.

The entire staff is pretty much doing Super Bowl coverage right now. If you compare today's college bball wrap of Saturday vs. last week there is a big difference.
Only two full articles on men's bball games (UT vs Mizzou and A&M vs. Nebraska). Everything else, Big XII games also, got two maybe three grafs.

Understood and agree....but just a box score only?...Hey maybe just a quick 150 word post, but nothing but a box score was high school "ish".

Seems like the entire DMN is SB. Front page, biz, metro, etc. Is this normal for a host city?

Did you read that stupid Jerry poll?

Complaining about the DMN coverage or lack thereof is no longer worth it. Light or heavy, you have two outlets that cover SMU in Rivals and Scout, you have this message board and ESPN Dallas.

Kids don't read the newspaper anymore and haven't for years. It's all about the internet.

But I will say this: With the ancient Bob Yates running the department, the ability to be current with the times is a challenge that will always face that department. He's too inflexible.

You are missing the point as the written articles hit the Nationwide wire services and search engines and gets the press in general on board. Its hard to get the internet stuff on SMU if no one is writing about them. It starts at the local level and attracts the ESPN's and the others like sharks if there is 'noise' about SMU that hits on all fronts. And yes they read the papers as the HS games and players of the week etc are in the DMN and they all read it to check up on their peers, scores etc. All those kids love to see their pics or press in the papers.
