Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?Labor Day Weekend-it could be Sunday again-the week before NFL starts. Could be a fun 3 day weekend

Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?
NFL will be shut down on a lock out by the owners
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?I heard this was orchestrated by ESPN looking for intriguing opening week match ups. Not sure how this effects our home game with Agg, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get screwed. I'd much rather play in SA then the [deleted] can in CS.
If a home game against Agg means a stadium 70% full of hicks doing their gay cheers, I'd rather not suffer the embarrassment. I'd hope SMU fans step up and take the opportunity to buy tickets first, but I've seen that story play out before and it doesn't end well for us. Either way, they need to pull the trigger soon so I can make appropriate plans. #NewLobCity
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?
It would be a good recruiting tool, if Mike Sherman could recruit. They had a pretty poor recruiting season this year. Good grief, Tech out recruited them this year! GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?Statler, I am trying to understand your point. Currently we are scheduled to play A&M in College Station next Sept. and then the following year at our stadium. How does moving this year's game from College Station to San Antonio work against SMU. Sure there will be more Aggie fans than SMU fans in San Antonio, but not as many as would be in College Station. It seems to me that A&M would be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory - not SMU. Can you explain your reasoning.
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?
It does sound like a 'package' deal where the game moves next year and the following year the Ford game goes to Kyle Field. SMU will never win these type of arrangements....the big schools will always want out of the Ford date. Who cares if its a sell out here?...it won't be enough revenue to TAMU to keep them interested. I guess it makes sense as a package and if ESPN is involved then so be it.
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?I'm sure when this series was schedule, SMU was still the doormat of CUSA and A&M knew it was a guaranteed win. Now the Ponies are winning and the Ags do not want to risk a loss. If that is the reason by all of this, it is nice that SMU is starting to reach that level.
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?Play both years at the AlamoDome, if necessary. Beats a trip to College Stadium.
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?Let's go for the W being the only game on Sunday and nationally televised.
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?
I disagree on the Rice game. It was fairly well attended by the SMU crowd. Easily over 1,000. I would guess 2-3,000.
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?We 50+ers are getting a little big. Maybe they blocked the view of the other 2750 that were there.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?a&m is #7 preseason according to si.
if we want an easy win why don't we schedule ut? they are now the doormatt of the big 12.
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?The only problem I see with the logic that the SA game becomes our "home" game, instead of the following year, is that if that is our home game, then we control the revenue, TV rights etc. Our TV rights are owned by FSN now, so why would ESPN be arranging the location for our "home" game and broadcast it?
Not sure if there is a loop hole for neutral site games, but I would imagine FSN would not let that happen. #NewLobCity
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?
Supposedly there is some sort of loopholes for Showcase games. I can't really give a definition on that but think Oregon St. vs. TCU and Va Tech vs. Boise this past year. Basically the Season kickoff type games they are having every year at Jerryworld and the Georgia Dome. I read this somewhere but can't remember where exactly. Take it for what it's worth.
Re: Road trip to San Antonio ?Lets do both games at SA - that would be the only fair way to do this.
Otherwise - tell ESPN to shove it and keep our home and home. also - I thought we would be over-run by froggies at home this year but I was very positively surprised by our crowd - we were at least 2/3 - so I would not count us out vs aggies - our fans show up when the game has any relevence - and tend to blow off low rent opponents.
