There's a RB in California named Marlon Lucky (6-0, 202, 4.44) who reportedly is considered by many recruiting services to be among the top 5 RBs in the country. He's currently considering Nebraska, USC, Mississippi State (how'd they get on the list?), Washington, Florida and LSU. It's not likely, but shouldn't he get a call? Consider:
"I'll stay here (California) or I'll go; it doesn't matter. I'm not the type of kid to get homesick. I lived in Texas before moving out to California. My mother still lives in the Dallas area. Los Angeles is alright, but it's a little crowded...."
Coaches - put in a phone call to him! If he says no way, then we move on. But can you imagine the reaction if we somehow lured him to the Hilltop with the appeal of living near Mom?

UT would probably move his mother to Austin.
After all, Cedric Benson is graduating and Selvin Young is damaged goods. I have heard that their freshmen are struggling in camp.
I would prefer SMU sticks to its roots and the greater DFW area.

Me too-who needs one of the Top 5 running backs in the country when you rush for NEGATIVE yards against TCU.

Stallion,
I am just being realistic. What do you think the odds of a highly recuited kid from California coming to SMU? If he strongly desired to play in the WAC, I would guess that he would choose Fresno State. My guess is that USC, UCLA, Stanford, Arizona, Fresno, and even Texas will offer.
I bleed blue and red, but I would prefer it if we set realistic goals. About two or three years, Bennett's brother had Greg Gold (now OSU) at Irving when Phil got the job. Wouldn't even listen to SMU (was promised playing time). If we can't get a lot of State top 100 players, why do we hold a scholarship for a stud from California? I would prefer to start making inroads in Texas high schools.

Don't underestimate the power of Sylvester Croom. Alabama will rue the day that they did not hire him as their head football coach.

Croom had better be a magician. After losing to I-AA Maine yesterday at home, MSU has a long, long ways to go to compete in the SEC.

It seems to be happening quite frequently to the schools in the Big conferences. Last week it was Rutgers and now MSU. It's funny that schools that are renowned for their hockey teams are actually beating up on some of the schools from the bigger conferences, which makes me think that if we had scheduled Grambling or FAMU instead of OSU, there would have been no guarantee of a win, as some people might have thought.

The coaches should spend 37 cents send a letter and an interest card. The worst he could do is say no. If he said, he might be interested in a visit (if for no other reason than an expense paid trip to see Mom), how great would that look that a top five RB scheduled a visit to SMU even if he signs elsewhere. At least other kids might say, whoa, maybe they are turning things around down there. And who knows. A few looks at the Fillies on campus, and he might decide, you know, Big D is where its at. Unrealistic for signing, yes, but for a visit???

Hey - maybe our chances at Grambling were not a shoe in - but better then the odds vs OSU wouldn't you say? OSU gets replaced and then maybe we grab a win, then beat SJSU and everyone is talking 2-2 with a shot at a bowl due to WAC schedule - (I know its crazy but that is what the buzz would be) - we should have told OSU we ain't playing and paid the penalty - SANE SCHEDULING IS THE ANSWER.

I don't disagree with your assessment. We definitely would have a better shot at winning. It just seems that the way people talk about getting a grambling or famu in here that it would mean an instant win. I agree, the schedule was absolutely insane for this team and has played a significant part in the fortunes of this team. Reminds me of the Basketball team in the early 90s when they would play such a ridiculous non-conference schedule with teams such as KU and Missouri, among others.
