Our biggest problem was catching a punt on ST. Once Crawford got in there, it was ok. But that could have cost us a few games this year. Our kick off return coverage was pretty poor. Kids didn't seem to stay in their lanes or be where they were supposed to be.

If we had good kickers that hit them long and with some darn hang time, the Special Teams would have looked considerably better and may have helped our W/L record. Kicking short to the 20 yard line and with a low trajectory on kick offs put all the guys in bad position and no chance to cover.

Not to mention you had Matt our 1st string hurt most of the season, reason for short kickoffs. Certainly didn't help. Lots of FG misses it seemed like at very important times (UCF, Army). The Tech 61 yarder was a special teams highlight. All in All - Special Teams, regardless of excuses was about a C or C-

Unbelievable, how often is it that the weak link of a coaching staff gets hired away? JJ should be able to knock this hire out of the park, he knows Pete Rodriguez and Joe Avezzano, 2 of the best ST coaches in NFL history.

It wouldn't hurt to hire a great young special team's coach that has great recruiting contacts in Houston or Dallas either

From Hawaii to Edmonton. Talk about a climate and culture change his career has brought him. Good luck coach.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Lets go Young, NFL experience, African american....

Any suggestions...

no need to be race specific. young & NFL experience connects with these guys. specifically rings.

McKnight is/was an offensive guy, not ST. he filled a void in a time of need. sad to see him go, b/c i really liked him as a person (and he was a good customer!)
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

SMU RB Coach McKnight Headed to Edmonton Eskimos

Postby Dooby » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:54 pm

I don't know why anybody would badmouth McKnight out the door. He was a good dude and a colorful character. He played in the NFL. Hell, the fake punt was one of the few highlights of the bowl game. He had something to do with the blocked kicks as special teams coach. he was part of the staff that brought us back from the dead and for that I will always be appreciative of coach McKnight.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

i didn't think about coach Joe. he has the cowboys SB rings to wear, is a character in person, and didn't he and JJ coach the same team in the Texas v. Nation game last week?
