How quickly will Bennett pull Phillips?

Postby PonySnob » Thu Sep 02, 2004 11:25 am

With his expectations of playing multiple QB's on Saturday, how many series will Phillips get before he gets pulled? If SMU goes 3 and out on its first 2 positions and Phillips is 0-2 or 0-3, does he get yanked out of the game? Are our QB's going to continue to always wonder if they are 1 or 2 bad passes away from getting pulled out of the game as has been the case since Cavan was the head coach?

Pull Phillips?

Postby rich_alum » Thu Sep 02, 2004 11:43 am

Phillips is probably one of our best players? Why would Bennett pull him? He gives us so much versatility out on the field. If we stay in this game, it will because of him.

Typical framing of the question by, as someone called him, ponySnot.

Coach Bennett has already said he may want to look at the other QBs, not as a matter of "pulling" but rather of evaluation and getting other packages into the early season perhaps.

And BTW it does make it more difficult for the other team to prepare.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!!

Typical PonySnob, always assume the worse and then post a Mind F*rt. It is how he gets his thrills. For him there is never any hope, so why bother.

Hopefully he will pull him about as fast as he pulled Tate Wallis two years ago....did Tate keep us in that game?

Phonysnob, I hope Phillips doesn't read this board like some of the other players do. But if he does, I hope he believes in himself the way most of us do on this board.

I wouldn't mind if we adopted a rule from hornfans.com where they pull stupid post once they begin to single out a player negatively unless it is well deserved.

Go Phillips and Go Ponies!

I certainly think that Phillips can do the job - he is appears to be the best athlete we have had at the QB position since Flanigan was here. The point of my question was to see if fans felt that Bennett would give Phillips an honest shot Saturday given that the offense is totally new. It seems like from the time that Cavan was here, our QB's have always played very tentative because they were afraid of making a bad play and then being pulled out of the game. I am not sure that a QB can ever have any self-confidence wondering if he is going to get pulled after every wrong decision/bad play.

Hopefully, Phillips goes out and just lights it up and leaves no doubt that we have found our QB!

Why NPR? It is the only place you can get an even look at the news without incredible corporate influence. No way I'd like to see pony snob there.

Would anyone else agree that they would rather hear Bennett say: "Phillips is the starter, he's not coming out, he will play the entire game." I say; give him some confidence, and at the very least let him improve for conference games later in the season.
