Samarrippas tried to do too much at the end but this one was over when Rob missed that key 3 pointer

mangrum missed that wide open 3 too, a little earlier than the Nyakundi one. gotta hit'm uncontested on the road

I will put this in a different context.

SMU should dominate UTEP in both FB and BB

No comparison between Dallas and El Paso, whatsoever. Same goes with the two schools.

Here's hoping the days of domination are soon upon us.

Nyakundi crapped out tonight, but Mangrum and J-Frog did take up the slack. But then when they both went cold in the second half, no one else could step up.

Hard to win a game with Rob playin that bad.

Oh well, gotta shake it off and get ready for a tough one down in Houston.

I can agree in Football, but UTEP has a proud basketball tradition with a big name coach. They are tough in basketball usually and I would be happy if we could strive to be their equal.

Was it that or was it that UTEP is pretty hard to beat out there with a great crowd and experienced players. Sometimes, that senior leadership means something in tight games. They were just better in the last 5 minutes from the way it sounded.

Just keep grinding.

looked to me like we just couldn't execute, but i never claim to be a basketball expert. oh well, they guys played great ball up til then. was a fun game to watch.

Yea, it wasn't a meltdown. It was tied w/like 5 or 6 to go, so it's not like they came back from 20 back. They did a good jump of exploiting their best match-up late. We couldn't guard Stone, and it really came down to that. Ultimately, if the kid w/the ball in his hands most of the time, can get to the rim at will, that's ball game

Exactly, same with those punks at Rice.

They did win a National Championship in Basketball. Don't care how long ago, that is quite an accomplishment. I do hope we start dominating them in bball, that would mean we would be a pretty good team to do it.

Sure hope so..That loss to Houston was the real conference game that haunts us so far. We got Tulane on the road too early, before the team had faith they were good, understandable loss.

Can't find fault with losses at UAB and at UTEP, almost all conference teams are going to lose those.

We need to get this Houston game to put us back on track. No shame in losing at UTEP, still plenty of chances to get back in it, gotta steal a few on the road.

They deservingly won their National Championship because they integrated sooner than others.

We are talking Dallas versus El Paso, no comparison. If anything, given what is happening south of the border, the disparity is growing. Plus, whatever $$$ they spend on their program, we should easily be able to triple it if need be.

Yep, I think we can dominate them.

The border talk is very valid, I sure as hell would have second thoughts about going to school in El Paso, if I had other options.

Still though, UTEP has a proud tradition, nice arena, big fan base. They probably out draw us 8k fans a game. Hopefully we can turn the corner, keep getting the good recruits and build on this season.

Thing is though, we have to be careful, we have been living on a prayer many of these wins. This team is right there, but they could either win out, or never win again, all close games.

Should be fun though!

Don't disagree with you Socal - we will get there, but they have sustained a level in basketball for many years and we have been almost bottom of the barrel for the last 10 or so. Glad things are changing.

Dement had a few good teams, but they always fizzled. That last SWC conference title with Shumate was a fun team. I still have their last NCAA tournament appearance on VHS against BYU in 93. We played so poorly, but got close at the end only to lose.

Still though that 93 team was fun...I want to get back to those days!

A special place in my heart, got my first serious job and snuck out of work early to watch SMU play their tournament game. Also bought my first HUGE TV just to watch...thing probably weighed 200 pounds.

Good times.
