NW STATE vs. Baylor? --- WTF Happened???

Northwestern State is another Southland Conference school (Div. 1-FCS, formerly Div. 1-AA).
The Mustangs have - so far - played these teams from the Southland Conference:

Sam Houston State
Stephen F. Austin State University
Texas State University - San Marcos (formerly Southwest Texas State University)

The Demons of Northwestern State travel well and should bring a good crowd to Ford Stadium from Natchitoches, LA. SMU should put the McNeese State University Cowboys from Lake Charles, LA on the 2012 schedule. Those folks travel well, too. And they'll bring damn good gumbo to The Boulevard!

This switch doesnt bother me given where our program is at this point. But in a couple of years I would like to see us fully in the Fresno State model:

Play anyone anywhere anytime. Compete with schools in the BCS conferences. CUSA will provide us with all the easy marks we need.

Fresno State played Cal Poly in 2010
Fresno State played UC-Davis in 2009
Fresno State played Sacramento State in 2007

It looks to me that playing a D-IAA team just about every year *is* Fresno State's model for scheduling.

Now, if our fans are bent out of shape because it isn't an opponent they want to see, then that's troubling. I thought you bought tickets for the purpose of WATCHING THE MUSTANGS REGARDLESS OF WHO THEY PLAYED.

I have been preaching this sentiment for years and it falls on deaf ears. Our non-conf schedule this year is exactly what it should be every year. 2 home games, one against a lower class opponent; tcu; a big xii school; and navy.
