they stunk before that, Papa, they're just atrocious now

The word I'm hearing is that TCU is going to bring in "Turnaround" Tom Penders former UH & UT Coach... This would not be good for SMU! Plus with TCU going to the BE he's an East Coast guy!

Turnaround Tom who was fired by Houston. How is his being an East Coast guy bad for us? Penders or not, TCU is going to be pounded into dust the first few years in the Big East. Our basketball success is not tied to TCU's success/failure anyways. It's dependent on further talent acquisition, executing the system, keeping Doherty confined to the areas he excels in, and not suffering mental breakdowns.

Besides, we seem to have been recruiting to the West of Forth Worth and trying to make inroads into the local scene and the state of Texas. We finally appear to be making some tangible progress with Cunningham, Williams, Giles, and Manuel. At this point I think our only roadblocks to greater success are the ones we put up ourselevs. Not a potential Tom Penders-led team we play once a year OOC.

I think it does effect SMU He was able to take UH & UT two "Texas" schools to the NCAA and two other teams in a short ammount of time! If he can sell the BE to bule chip Dallas/FT Worth & Houston kids! They would be able to play Big Time Basketball without leaving home! We would be selling playing who "Memphis" & maybe "UCF"? that almost laughable! This could hurt US way more than you think!

Of this year's fab 5 and next years class, which of them were we in competition w/ TCU for?

Not many, I don't think.

I think SMU's basketball ceiling is a lot higher than TCU's.

Basketball is different than football, I think. Would you rather go Big East and play bigtime, and go to DePaul and have your [deleted] handed to you, or go play for Butler in the Horizon League?

Tom Penders runs a totally different system from what Doherty is trying to do at SMU. Tom needs the best athletes and will recruit the New York area. Doherty needs disciplined players and has been recruiting California and now Dallas. I don't see them as a threat to us. Don't get me wrong, they may steal the spotlight, but should not factor into our recruiting.

Yes Doherty does run a different type system that's NOT as FUN! If Penders gets this Job his system is more of an open AAU style that the kids "Athletes" of today like to play! That's the way they play all summer! Those types of players are all over this area! You Don't think these kids see BE basketball on TV and want to play that way! Let's be real Big Time Ahtlete's don't care about Butler or the Horizon league which is better than C-USA by the way!

Jim Christian's status at TCU

Not going to happen.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Even though I don't think it's going to happen, if you think Penders to TCU is some massive roadblock to SMU's success with its own basketball program, well, there's a bit of a disconnect.

First off, Penders proved at UH that he could not recruit "those types of players" that "are all over this area" he had to go to the New York area which upset many fans at UH. So there goes the argument of it negatively impacting SMU's ability to recruit this area. Secondly, unless he gets the very best athletes he will not be able to win anything of consequence with any deal of consistency. If you coach at Kentucky, UNC, Duke, UCLA, etc. then go for the best athletes and run everyone off the gym. However, if you are an SMU or TCU and try to beat them at their own game, by and large you are going to lose.

He is an East Coast guy who is from Connecticut. He's also going to turn 66 in May. If TCU is going to be credible from a hoops perspective in the Big East, is that the direction they really want to go?

If I'm TCU, I would really think hard about that.

Forget Jarvis on every campus. He is a total disaster. Just research a little of his disaster and problems at St. Johns.
