Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!Screw that NCAA NCAA NCAA
"smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!3 days in El Paso, 180 pts for us, 158 for the 3 other teams we play, combined
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!IF we make it to the championship game, I like our chances. It's at like 9am or 10am local time. Our D and our O require concentration and tenaciousness to counter...just ask Coach Dickey, of "we just went through the motions" fame
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!No NIT hope with a few more wins plus a couple in the C-USA Tourney? I could see an SMU/Baylor NIT match-up.
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!I'm with BUTitan, we should be setting our goals for NCAA and then NIT. CBI is a conciliation prize at this point in the season and would represent a collapse on our part. Set high goals, not 'we are so lucky to be here' goals.
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!Our RPI is so low that it would take a miracle to get an at-large to the NIT.
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!Well, at least if we win out we'll finish the regular season 21-9, a great seed in the CUSA tourney, and for some reason if we get snubbed, we have the chance to all pound our fists on the table and cry foul for being screwed over! In the end, that would still be a lot of fun considering where we were sitting four months ago.
Now, just win the next five games...
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!We need to win the conference tournament to get in the NCAA as an AQ. We win out and get to the finals of the CUSA tourney, then possible NIT.
Don't forget the schedule we all complained about earlier. The won loss record can look good but that is deceptive as we all know. This does NOT take away from the fact that I am thrilled with our progress and feel like this year has been an OVERWHELMING success. I am not even going to fault us for the schedule because maybe that was what we needed. I hope that we ramp up the SOS a bit next year and in future years seeing that we may have the horses to handle it.
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!
Get a few more wins and we're CBI bound. NIT would take some real work, NCAA requires a CUSA tourney title. The OOC schedule stunk, but it worked just like they wanted it to. If we had Losh/Smith from the beginning, like they anticipated, this was easily a 20 win year etc. That was the building block they wanted, since 20 wins doesn't come easy on the hilltop.
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!so has Mangrum performed in the role they anticipated for Smith? And if so, I guess that's Smith's job next year to fill the void created by Mangrum leaving?
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!
Not sure it's apples to apples, as Smith came in more as a 4, w/some 3 capability. Since then, he's lost a ton of weight, so not sure how that translates on the blocks. Doesn't much matter in the sprint motion though, as most get looks from everywhere. Nyakundi & Vilde are guaranteed on the frontline, I'd think, so either Smith gets the 3, Jalen Jones, or Shawn Williams when he qualifies. Love me some Mangrum, but that's a lot of fire power replacing him
Re: CBI! CBI! CBI!The only way we get into the NCAA tournament is by winning the CUSA tournament. I also think that our only shot at the NIT is by winning the CUSA regular season title which is still a possibility. However, if we keep up the good work we will likely play CBI or CIT at the very least.
Re: CIT! CIT! CIT!BUMP! Had to rename the thread.
