HARPModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: HARPHarp actually plays pretty good D in the rotation of bigs; he's just never been once to contribute offensively. An untimely missed layup today, that's for sure...but he wasn't the only one missing important shots down that stretch
Re: HARPRyan's defense is why he is in there, and his minutes go up when the bigs get in foul trouble.
Mustangs Abu!
HARPIt was a frustrating slow game. The refs controlled the clock by calling the slightest contact which drove our bigs to the seats. I think I saw 40 fouls called split pretty evenly between the two teams. While Ive already been scolded for calling out Harp, it is hard to recall more notable plays than when he was in the middle of it ushering out mediocrity. (Mangrum's botched dunk earns an honorable mention for not being current on Snipes\Harrelson imdb titles.)
That said, this was close to as good of a crowd as Ive seen in Moody over the last couple years. I sincerely hope I get to see this effort through the beginning of March. Dia and Nyuk were a blast to watch and I still have high hopes for the next few weeks. We may not be perfect, but Im thrilled with the direction we are heading. HARP
This is the biggest bunch of bulsh Harp defenders use to rationalize his minutes. I've never seen him play above average D and more than often he gets burned. He almost cost us the game before his blown layup by playing the safety valve on the in bounds pass, but the guy didn't see Harp's man wide open. #NewLobCity
Re: HARP
I'm not saying he's great, but I am stating the rationale for his being there. When the big guys are out, who would you put in there to defend? Mustangs Abu!
Re: HARPOnce again, I am not, repeat not, an basketball expert. But Harp did just fine. he wasn't asked to be a scorer, He was asked to to do a job while our better players were in foul trouble. Also he filled in to give Dia a breather. Someone has to do this.
He isn't ask to score, he is asked to play a fill in roll for others. To that affect, he has done a great job.
Re: HARPSorry guys don't agree...effort is fine but he is so mismatched that its not even fair. Why in the world are we using a 6'4 white 2 scoring guard ( which is what he was in HS) as a defender against 4's and 5's down low?...Why isn't Miles Lutton used to beat up on the bigs for just a few minutes/ Or why not our 7 foot waste of a scholarship used to beat up the 6'10 and 6'9 posts that Tulsa has? I think we got way out coached yesterday and was tired of seeing Harp or Mangrum just literally dominated down low. It was an automatic 2 points. The last 20 seconds of the first half on the Tulsa posession was an example of a total waste of time....they immediately gave the ball to their big guy when they saw the mismatch and he drop stepped into an easy layup over Mangrum.
And Harp just isn't happening and isn't effective. Effort doesn't equal results in this case.
Re: HARP
That's a bit of a farce, match-ups go both ways and last thing we want is for Doh to micro-manage personnel. We've played small intentionally, all year, just to get shooters and our best on the court. We've know there would be times we'd get housed on the blocks or boards b/c of it, but it's what we have. You don't go big, just to go big, if it's not how the club has shown success. Sure, we could run Luttman or TK at Tulsa's bigs, but that hasn't been our calling card, and we've been effective w/Harp/Mangrum paying that role prior to yesterday. We played poorly and Tulsa played well, that simple. They won w/better athletes, and we made a run doing what we do. Our last two losses have been all about the other team having better athletes. We couldn't guard Stone at UTEP, and Tulsa has a few horses. It's gonna happen w/our roster, it's not about adjustments
Re: HARPOne thing I think yesterday showed is that regardless of the situation, the critical thing is to just keep running our system. Work the o for 40 min, same with the d. Most of cusa , if not all, is not an elite team, so sooner or later chances are they'll wear down and either allow us to close the gap on a deficit or extend a lead.
