New Goal, Finish No Worse Than 7th

Postby shadowman » Sun Feb 27, 2011 2:01 pm

Could be hard, with 2 tough games remaining, but our goal needs to be to finish no worse than 7th.

Houston and Tulane have packed it in for the season and Rice just does not quite have the athletes and depth. As long as we can finish at least 7th, we should get one of those three teams in the first round of the tourament and have a great shot to advance.

The other nine teams (SMU included) have shown that they can beat any other team on any given day, everyone is just that close. Would be really nice to get a winnable game in the first round and then we let the chips fall where they may heading into the next round. Not to say that we couldn't blow it against Rice, Tulane, or Houston, we certainly could, but the odds would be in our favor.

Also, we need to finish strong to give ourselves a chance at the CBI or CIT. Papa Dia deserves a shot at a postseason tournament, even a crappy one. Let's give it to him.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

That won't be easy. after losing 8 in a row in CUSA play, UCF has now won 4 of their last 5 including wins against Tulsa, UTEP and So Miss. I expect another Marshall typ effort from our guys, but winning on the road against good teams is never easy. UTEP will have a 1st round bye riding on that finale in Moody, but let's hope Dia, Walker, Harp (and Mangrum) shine on senior night.

tired of moral victories - let's win these next two. we had UTEP and Marshall on the ropes on the road, no excuses.

I think we'll get UTEP at home. Need one more win in the regular season to really be CBI ready. Maybe a win in the tourney. These guys will fight for it, but it's tough to smoke n mirror forever. No matter what happens, it's a program on the rise.

I hope so. However, it will be like a "home" game for UTEP because their fans will show up in force and be louder than the usual SMU "attendees" (totaling somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,600) who sit on their hands and play the quiet game.

It is our last home game and is on a saturday. I am hoping for a good turn out. We really need to beat UTEP before going into the conference tournament. It would give us a some confidence that we need.

I never have liked goals like this. I understand them, but the goal always needs to be to go win every time you step on the floor. I am really pumped about the next two games although I am a little worried because last year when we played ucf last year on the road they beat us and it was ugly. I think we have to win that game so we can have momentum going into utep because they will be tough to beat after losing 2 in a row
