Our team was breaking in a new QB who needs more practice getting into the redzone. There is NOTHING in the rulebook that forbids teams from trying to score in regulation. There are however LAWS against assault.

I don't have a problem with running plays while the clock winds down. Don't want to take a knee? Fine. But you can run plays besides throwing at the endzone. And you don't need to run 2 plays inside of 10 seconds on the game clock. The play clock is already turned off. You say your QB needs more practice? What about your superstar running back. Whoo boy, that 54 yards nearly did us in. He's a stud. Sounds to me like he could have used a few more carries.

What I was actually hoping (I know it's wrong to say this) is that Bennett would call a timeout before that last play, walk down the sideline, and say "Who wants to hit a quarterback today? I don't care if you get a 15 yard penalty. Lay him out." That would be stooping to their level and all, but it would have been sweet.

Tech is nothing but a bunch of UT wannabees as people go there because they couldn't get in anywhere else. Leach was clearly trying to pad the stats and we DID stop the attempt to score. There are classy ways to win games and then there is Mike Leach and his way. That kind of reminded me when Houston was throwing into the end zone up 95-21 and they got paid back. Tech will continue to be a wannabee in the Big XII too as they are clearly the fourth or fifth option in the Big XII South. They have to TRY to beat up on a team like us and our kids stood up to the challenge.

Just out of curiosity, as so many tt fans are so proud of brave Leach after an absolutely complete and thorough butt whipping' by OU, was OU using its first team to score meaningless TDs or did OU's second and third string Sooners do the damage? My guess is the latter. In that case, what Leach said is appropriate. Judging form the number of knockdowns lowly SMU had on the new virile tt QB, Leach may be better served getting his second teamer some snaps.

As a DFW FB coach for a 5A program for the last 24 years, I'd like to add my 2 cents.

You're not a coach. NFL coaches know not rub opponents faces in it since what goes around comes around, and in the NFL conferences the same season. I think you meant BCS (Big Cash Series) football, not college ball.

BCS is a relatively new money grab by a few of the division 1A conferences to exclude the rest from the Div. 1A National Championship, and thus exclude the rest from recruiting competively the top players. I hope us Div. 1A non BCS schools challenge this in court in the next year or so.

A- they expected a bigger show from Tech's passing offense. They want to be a part of that, not the QB draw offense we saw out of SMU. The Playstation offense, a score a minute, is a big selling point for kids these days. B. The post-game actions by Coach Bennett (hope I spelled that right) bothered the kids more than the run it up. I wish he hadnt done it. Trying to sell local kids on SMU is tougher when the kids think a madman is in charge.

A. Coach, do your players a really big favor, explain to them that life is not a "Playstation", it's hard work. Also explain to them that the majority of them will never see the pros and that a good education is worth much more than a good football game relative to their future. They should be much more concerned about their education than "national exposure".

B. What Bennett did was standup for his players and confront a coach that was letting his ego get in the way of good sportsmanship...whether it be HS, college or the pros, sportsmanship is the same. The point of football is not to try to humiliate another team, but to win the game...in this case the game was already won. The attempt to add on points was classless. Speaking thereof, you might want to spend some time with your kids and explain to them what having class and honor means too.

No running game, no red zone offense and absolutely no field goals. The defense is weak s well. This may well be tt high point. Beating up on a botom 10 team sure does make one stick out their chest with pride. As too class acts, i witnessed Bear Bryant in a very similar situation call time out and berate his QB for trying to score a meaningless TD late in the game. That is class.

Right you are. Last year, we got drilled by Boise State, and someone asked Coach Bennett if he was mad at the Broncos for running up the score. No, because that score was a result of the game as it was played. This was a case of a coach trying to make a very close game look more convincing than it was.

Steve Spurrier even has his QB take a knee once in a while, and I used to think he was a jerk.

How would you like to be Tech AD Gerald Myers, and to realize that your man Bobby Knight ISN'T the most class-less cretin in your athletic department?

Agreed. I'd follow Coach Bennett anywhere. That man is a true leader, and he convinced me last night more than ever that he is the man to lead us back to where we want to be. Those kids busted their tails for him last night, and he wasn't about to let that game end without them knowing he appreciated their work and that he'd go to bat for them, too.

If you're the coach from Allen High School, thanks for coming to the game. Several of your players were sitting next to me and they were very fine young men. I thanked them for coming to the game and even discussed some of the plays on the field with them. At first, they were laughing and joking about SMU..."The Death Penalty" school. But after a few of our defensive stands against the TT 'system' where we held them to a field goal and/or no points at all, they began to realize that SMU has turned its program around. In fact, the young man sitting next to me (a cornerback) said, "SMU is for real!" I agree with you that it takes a lot of PR and positive input from alumni and supporters to get young men to consider SMU over other schools that might come knocking on their door. IF you are the coach from Allen, thanks for bringing your players to the game and sitting in Section 107, rows 10-13. But I wish you had stayed to see the ENTIRE game. You pulled your kids out of Ford Stadium with about 7:00 remaining on the clock so you didn't see the final outcome. I would have LOVED to see the look on your players' faces when SMU's defense denied TT their final TD with :05 on the clock from the 5-yd. line. That may very well have cemented their decision to choose SMU...especially the young man (cornerback) who was sitting next to me.

Mr. Fooseball you can say what ever you want but your defense is weak. It was a classless act and no amount of rhetoric will change that. As Jackie Sherril once said when he first became the coach at aTm U, get your licks in now because wvery dog has his day, or some such words.

with all due respect to Coach I've been watching college football for 40 years at least 300 in person and thousands on TV and I suggest you are simply wrong. Heck I saw sportmanship desplayed by two coaches in the waning minutes twice on Sunday in college games-each time the announcers commended the coach for doing the right thing. In particular, Louisville was playing their arch rival Kentucky and has perhaps the No. 1 rated freshman QB in the country (Brohem) who needs experience as he is running second string. Louisville ran something like 10 straight running plays-which Kentucky couldn't stop by the way. They had the ball on the Kentucky 1 yard line leading 28-0 with about :30 seconds left. With 50,000 fans yelling to run up the score- Petrino not only didn't try to post 31 with a FG he simply had the QB take a knee-not even trying to run a play to score. He definitely didn't hurry a play from the sidelines just to run one more play. There is a new breed of college coach like the John Jenkins and Jack Pardee who come to mind who think like Leach-they are by and large the Parriahs of the profession-and I do believe the SMU Mustangs have a game ball courtesy of the Atlanta Falcolns symbolizing exactly what most coaches think about those type of tactics.

When did Stoops go into a hurry up offense with the game won and throw for the end zone in the last seconds of play? Very seldom do you see that lack of class in any sport at any level. TT ran up the score last year. Nobody said anything about it. That isn't the pont. Throwing on the last plays of the game with the game in hand is. Any one but an idiot sees the difference.
