Questions from AZ.I listened to the first three quarters over the internet and turned it off because of the SOS. Question for those at the game.
1. Was Phillips as bad as it sounded on the radio? 2. Should he have been replaced at the end of the first half? 3. How did the sub quarterback perform. Thks, wilt
Re: Questions from AZ.
1. Throwing Probably Running My Lord Can that boy run 2. No IMO ![]()
Please keep in mind that Phillips played against the number one defense the whole game. Eckert played against the number two defenses until we got into the red zone. And that defense was soft underneath. Eckerd did well to stay in the pocket and threw sharp passes. Keep in mind that Eckerd was 6-9 for all of 53 yards. Not exactly a huge down the field force. However, it is a classic apples to oranges comparison. One must keep in mind the circumstances that each QB faced.
That said, it would appear we have at least two QBS that are capable of delivering the goods. That is in and of itself a huge improvement over the last 3 to 4 years at the QB position.
1. Phillips was even worse than the radio made him sound.
2. Yes he should of been replaced. Maybe then we could of had a chance of winning. 3. Eckert went in, moved 82 yrds down the field and scored SMUs only touchdown of the night. What more can I say?? Mustangs will win in 04
Re:
Wait so you are saying we didnt have a chance of winning when it was tied 6-6? ![]()
Re:
Obviously, someone hard for Eckert's jock.
For Mr. Peruna .... Rolex. I believe your comment was even more classless than Bennett charging the field. Here is one question for you----what do you see in Phillips?? Is it the way he can not throw? The way he struts around and believes he is better than everyone else or is it his excellent track record. Im sorry, but this is not someone who will get our team out of their slump. Im tired of losing and so are the boys. Eckert or Romo should have a chance to get the job done. What the worse that can happen?? We could lose???

Re:
And you nobody else here is?! We've all been here screaming we want to win. on Saturday that was the best we've looked in a season opener in a long time. Why do you think Im so confident we'll beat TCU ![]()
Re:
Geez, take a joke. Someone can't sense sarcasm, obviously. Also, don't expect an apology from me. You must not get out often if you thought that was "classless." As for your question, I have another question for you and that is...what do you see in Eckert? All I saw was a qb throw underneath to a prevent defense, not to mention fumble a couple of snaps and make a rather questionable throw that, any other time, would have gotten picked off. I don't see how you can make such a judgement after just one game in the season. You may disagree but so what about last season. That was last season, it's over and done. It's history. Let's not look back...let's look forward. If you think you're tired of the losing, do you think we sit around here and enjoy it? Give me a break. In my opinion, it seems as though you have some sort of intense dislike for Phillips that does not seem to be football related. If you want me to be straight up, I get the feeling it's racially motivated. Why else would the first thing you bring up is how he "struts around" rather than how he plays the game? To be honest, if things don't change within the next couple of games, then yes a change may be needed. As one poster said, I think all 3 have something different to bring to the table. I am not saying that I want ANY of them to fail. I just felt that you were pushing Eckert based off the actions of 1 drive. That is not fair and you know it. In closing, I will say this to you. If it ends up being that Eckert or Romo is better for this team, then so be it but I want to find out after more than 1 game into the season that they are the answer to the problem. I will support the Stangs no matter who the QB is as I don't have a favorite but you can't just decide "hey, he sucks so lets put this guy in."
Where did the strutting around comment come from anyway? I haven't seen that much of him being that I lived in Houston last year, but I find it hard to believe Bennett would stand for that, and I kinda doubt he did that anyway being that we were 0-12 last year and he has yet to prove anything. That just doesn't add up. If some of you get that impression by all means tell me, like I said I haven't seen him play enough but it doesn't make sense to me.
Mr. Rolex....wow, that was a lengthy reply. Dont have much else to do?? So....you think my "intense dislike for Phillips is racially motivated'?? So are you strongly accusing me of being a racist?? Youre right, i haven't gotten out much. That is now the most classless thing ive ever heard. Grow up rolex....that was a ridiculous comment and completly wrong. Maybe I should call you racist because you keep putting down eckert. When YOu read it do you realize how stupid it sounds??? I dont even want to converse with you anymore. You are childish and cannot carry on a decent argument. Try again when you are a little more mature.

Re:
First off, give me some points to argue with so that I can carry on what you call a "decent argument." You're the one throwing out a bunch of shot in the dark statements to go along with what Eckert did for one drive. Please, give me more information, enlightened one ,so that I may be "educated" and inform the masses. Out of curiousity, how have I put down Eckert? What did I say that disparaged him so horribly? Did he not have a couple of fumbles? Did he not throw against a prevent D? Did I say he was such a horrible person? Did I say he threw ducks in the air? Tell me what I said that was so disparaging? I'd like to know. It seems to me that you have an unreasonable dislike for Phillips based off one game and are throwing insipid reasons like "oh he struts around like he owns the place" to back your weak case up. What kind of logical reason is that? I never saw him do that during a game and Bennett sure as hell isn't going to go for that, not after a season like last year. Sorry if you don't like my calling you out but it just seems odd that you're calling out his "strutting around" without having addressed his play. It seems like you have a personal agenda with Mr. Phillips rather than an objective one. Also, you say that I am making a ridiculous argument yet all you can do is call me classless(which seems to be repeated by you often as an "insult") and criticize the length of my statement and not rebuttal my argument with any kind of reasonable fact. Just like your previous statement, it contains a grain of immaturity and a serious lack of content. If you don't want to argument with me, then fine. I'm so hurt that you don't want to talk to me that I guess I'll just have to go and call my mommy. ![]() For the record, I never disparaged Eckert. I just pointed out facts that happened during the course of the game. Did I not? Go back and read, oh mature one. While I am glad that his drive was indeed successful, I never said he was a horrible QB. All I stated was that you seem to be rather quick to pull the trigger on Phillips just based on one series. Reread and you'll see that I said that ALL 3 QBs have something to bring to the table and that if there is no improvement, then yes a change should be made. Don't go putting words in my mouth, Sir.
I thought Phillips showed some nice escapability and made some good throws... but he made a lot of bad ones.
Eckert looked great when he was in the game, although with much less pressure. One thing I've always thought about quarterbacks is that you can't teach accuracy. Cordell Stewart & Jake Plummer are good examples. Both are athletic guys who can't hit the broadside of a barn -- and never will. Ramon Flanigan was the classic escape artist but he could throw just accurately enough to get by. I don't know if Phillips has enough to "get by." That said, I think each showed enough potential to deserve another shot in the next game. I would give each guy two quarters (alternating) and then hopefully one will emerge enough to name a starter for game 3.
Well that may be true-but it doesn't make your point in college ball. Jake Plummer lead his team to the PAC 10 Championship and a Rose Bowl victory; Cordell Stewart was an outstanding College QB who I'm sure lead Colorado to several bowl games-can't recall exactly other than his Hail Mary against Michigan and Ramon Flannigan lead SMU to its only winning record in 15 years. Please spare me from the [Mike] Romo type who can throw the ball accurately 70 times a game but gets sacked 7 times a game and throws 3-4 INTs. If I don't have great WRs or an outstanding Offensive Line(and SMU doesn't) -better give me a mobile QB.
Too funny, using two guys (Plummer and Stewart), who've probably started a combined 200 games in the NFL as guys who we don't want our quarterbacks to be like. I suppose you'd probably turn down Vince Young, Brad Smith, or Matt Jones if we had the chance to have them?
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.
