Bartel

Postby PonyUp » Thu Dec 13, 2001 1:17 am

Before this season, it really sounded like Bartel was going to be one hell of a Quaterback for the Ponies someday. Sounds like a real stud two-sport athlete. Does anyone know why he did not get a chance to get on the field this past season?

1)We needed to and glad we did, redshirt him.
2)Even if he was not redshirted, he got on the staff's bad side. Remember the La. Tech game when all the coaches chewed him out? Ever since I don't think he traveled and I don't know if he suited up for any home games.

We attended the La. Tech game but I don't remember the chewing out. What were the circumstances? Moreover, will he stay?

Never found out what he did, but I was in the stands behind the bench and it was obvious to me he did something the coaches didn't like. I think there may be a thread on this message board somewhere explaining. I remember Cavan chewing him out and then a couple of assistants coming over to him on the bench and having some words with him.

Shame, cause according to some sources, Bartel is the gem of last year's class... and we got some players last year.

He sat because they needed to redshirt him. If he got on Cavan's bad side, that's in the past. All players will be given a clean slate with Coach Bennett. Bartel is extremely talented - watch him in Spring Ball.

From what I hear, people get so wrapped up in how tall Bartel is and how strong his arm is that they overlook how well he can run. He might be the man for Coach Bennett's offense. He has unreal physical tools.
