\"Varsity\" - Another classless Tech fans incident

Postby MrMustang1965 » Sun Sep 05, 2004 4:52 am

This song has special meaning for me. First, I learned it a LONG time ago when I started attending SMU football and basketball games as a child. Second, it was played at my father's memorial service in December 2002 because he was SMU's #1 fan.

Saturday night at Ford Stadium I witnessed something I have NEVER seen before in all the football games I've attended over the years...the other team's fans cheering and yelling for their team while SMU's school song is being played. A total lack of respect and dignity on the part of TT's fans. One word: CLASSLESS.

I can only imagine how TT fans would react if such a thing were to happen at Jones-SBC Stadium while their school song was being played...especially if it were their nemesis, the Texas Aggies.

I attended the Houston Bowl to see TT play Navy last year in Houston. I rooted for TT and even wore a TT shirt that my stepdaughter who was attending TT bought me. That shirt will now be donated to Goodwill or Salvation Army and it'll be a cold day in Hell before I ever support the Texas Tech Red Raiders ever again. I don't care to be associated with - in any shape, form or fashion - such classless, rude and disrespectful fans.

My stepdaughter is no longer at TT. She's transferring to SMU this spring. She's got class.

Might have been another classless, or bonehead move by Leach. When I couldn't hear Varsity because of the crowd, I looked down, and TT players were coming on the field. Coaches should've held them up till the band quit playing.

The sand aggies are improving though. At least they didn't tear down our goal posts, and throw them in the SMU crowd like they did a few years ago when they beat A$M.

The Sand Aggie fans were in one heck of a dilemma. Two things were happening simultaneously and for simpletons like Sand Aggies grads that was just too much information to process (if not entirely impossible). The Sand Aggie fans had to decide if they support their team's captains as they enter the field or do the Sand Aggie fans respect their opponent's alma mater? Throw in the fact that most Sand Aggie fans were also standing (another synaptic challenge) and it was just too much. So the Sand Aggies reverted to a more primitive form of social interaction and went with instinct to cheer all three (yes, just three) Sand Aggie players entering the field. Don't blame the Sand Aggie fans for their action. They are doing the best they can in a complicated world. Look at the bright side, most of them are house broke.

Sadly, this bevaviour is really nothing out of character for tt people.

I had the great fortune to attend the SMU-tt game in Lubbock back in '82 (as a member of the Mustang Band).

The game was already contenious as we were unbeaten at the time.

To add to the tension, "Zorro" (they're mascot on a horse) had run over one of the Pompon girls (knocked her out) as he ran around the stadium after one of tt's scores. I don't think it was intentional, but it was certainly careless and stupid. She had to be taken to a hospital and stayed overnight for observations. Needless to say we did not let that POS return to our little corner of the stadium.

When they tied us in the last seconds of the game, they began yelling at us from all sides with a stream of profanity which I have never since experienced. Yes, they were more vile than _______.(insert your other least favorite SWC school). Keep in mind this was not just coming from their students, but tt alumni and other "older" tt fans.

Well, needless to say Miracle Man Bobby Leach shut them up in about seven seconds.

I had pretty much put the negatives of that experience in the past until I heard tt fans during the playing of varsity. Nothing really new here.

Sorry for cheering for our team, that what fans do. Your ponies could use the same thing, they don't seem to get enough support....

Houston Nutt did the same thing in Dallas the last time we played Arkansas. I have no doubt it was on purpose to show they had more fans in the stands than us. I will not forgive Nutt for it, nor Leach.

Oh puhleaase. Do you honestly think another team's coach sits around and watches the band. Or that they even know what song they are playing? Or what the other team's schools song. I used to root for the Ponies, never again. You folks are the whiniest bunch of babies.

Classless TT

Postby Arkpony » Sun Sep 05, 2004 11:05 pm

Classless people just don't get it. Because they have no class it's beyond them to understand sportsmanship, honor and grace. Therefore we see posts like the idots here from TT. They have no idea where their failing is. It's like trying to explain a Mozart Symphony to a beer guzzling slob wearing a sweatstained t shirt (sounds like a TT fan??) sitting in his Lazy Boy watching the Jerry Springer Show. You're wasting your time.

Must be true since you say it is.

Maybe that is why you aren't coaching anymore. You spent to much time listening to the band.
Do you like showtunes also. :P

Red:

It does not deserve a response but I will.

I do not coach anymore because I used coaching (after injury) to continue my education and get my degree from an outstanding University. That allows me to sit in my big office on a day like today with my feet up wondering if the Tech graduates are slaughtering the cattle for my steak tonight. Please wipe off your boots before going inside.
