THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding Scandal
84% of statistics are made up. "This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"

Re: Ohio State's Most Recent Scandal Expands
It's very weird to say this, but I couldn't agree with you more. ![]() "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalDid anyone notice that Tressell never once said that he was sorry this happened, that he had done wrong, that he was apologizing for what he had done? No, what he said was that he was saddened by this situation. Apology?
Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalCould someone help me here? I am no fan of Ohio State, but the article suggests that these players "traded" for tattoos. Tressell aside, if this is all they did, it is that big a deal? Or did they trade for cash at inflated prices, articles given to them for playing football which I would view a scam to simply pay players?
Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding Scandaldidn't they sign memorabilia in trade for multiple tatoos with values into hundreds of dollars each. No its not a huge deal but definitely a violation. I think the fact that Ohio St played an entire season with players who its head coach knew had committed NCAA violations and should have been immediately suspended subject to NCAA reinstatement is a bigger deal because OSU may have gained a competitive advantage-it also goes to lack of institutional control at a very high level-but again we are dealing with tatoos-not that big a deal.

Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalThese poor coaches......they do their best to uphold the honor and integrity of their universities and try to help these good kids who are victims of our society. They aren't in it for the millions and the wins!
Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalWhat the head coach did is an entirely another matter. I haven't the slightest idea what the cost of a tattoo is, but if he had simply come clean immediately and disciplined the students I would have been OK with it. But, sweeping it under the covers and saying he didn't know to go to the compliance office at the university is just plain stupid and he needs to be reprimanded and punished. I almost suggested that they be ineligible for a bowl, but based upon the articles on the financial losses schools took this year, maybe that would be a reward.
Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalYes they sign Johnny "The SledgeHammer" Dupree with a rap sheet a mile long and a transcript filled with eraser marks and disappearing ink just to help the kids out, for God and Country. I would love for some day that the NCAA required each university to have to report the academic profile of their Student Athletes on the first page of the Game Day cover. High School GPA, SATs, majors, , major concentration statistics, graduation rates, and APRs. A fresh light on the subject might help remove the stench. Why doesn't the NCAA publish the annual university reports and program certification reports hint: because the most powerful schools would be embarrassed for the truth to be made public.

Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalI have always found it interesting, when I visited Fork Union Military Academy that they had pictures of their two Heisman Trophy winners, both of whom went to Ohio State. Let's see prep school education, Ohio State, Heisman. Ya think there are a few OSU donors who give to Fork Union so that potential Buckeyes can get their grades up.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding Scandalthe issue with the tattoos is a slippery slope. while it doesnt sound like a big deal trading memorabilia for tats, but how do you place a value on the items being traded. Pryor's jersey is worth more to an OSU fan or booster... I believe this was discussed with Green from Georgia. All of a sudden players are now selling jerseys to agents... OSU knew better, the players knew better, and The Vest sure as hell knew better and knew who to report it to

Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalThe Morning News has a great article this morning on the issue--primarily on the President of Ohio State. I had forgotten how he blasted Boise and TCU with his comments about them playing the "the little sisters of the poor" and how they didn't deserve a BCS bid.
I was not aware that TCU boosters put up a billboard in Columbus boasting about their Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin, a team that beat OSU! Great move!! Seems like OSU is punishing Tressell by not allowing him to coach against two of their three "little sisters of the poor" non-conference games. .....a billboard in Columbus, sponsored by the "little sisters of the poor praising the Froggies on their Rose Bowl win"--that's rich!! Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalAnother thing...I have a notion that there is more to it than has been told about the Baylor basketball program, but if all the suspended player did was be aware of his mother borrowing a small amount and then repaying it, looks like a real double standard compared to the punishment of Auburn and OSU and their players. Doesn't the NCAA know Baylor is a BCS school? oh, not a major state instituition? I get it now.

Better quit posting about Baylor or they'll take you down to the quarry. Derail the Frogs!
Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalI liked Collin Cowherd's take on it: "Next time I come across some extra income, I'm going to take the money and tell the IRS I didn't know who to report it to."
As CC said, every coach knows that you don't do anything these days without making the compliance department aware of it, and if by some chance you're too stupid to do that, when you hear of a player taking anything (and some tattoos can be extremely expensive), you "make the hard walk down to the athletic director's office and put it all on the table" ... not just to follow the rules, but in the case of many coaches, to cover yourself in case the situation blows up. Like ... the current fiasco at Ohio State. PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Re: THE Worst School in the nation and THE Expanding ScandalThere are two parts to the story that could get the NCAA to drop the hammer for lack of institutional control.
1) The justification for allowing the players to play was, "The University didn't educate the players on NCAA rules." 2) Now, Jim Tressel knew hew was playing with ineligible for an entire season and didn't report it because he couldn't decide who he should report to. If the NCAA wanted to they could drop the hammer on this program. Alas The Ohio State is part of their protected class and will not suffer any further consequences other than what they have already self imposed. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
