One of the last few home games when the starters were playing soft and didn't have their heads in the game, coach called a timeout and started yelling at them that they were playing like F-ing p*ssies. They then went on a run and closed the gap. I think that was the reason for the 4 man sub. Right or wrong, I think he was trying to wake them up and not waste a timeout. Did it work? Probably not the way he envisioned it, but we did close the gap and make a run. Oh well, on to next year. Hoop, if the season started tomorrow, who is the starting 5 in your eyes? (ignore the fact that transfers won't be immediately eligible)

From what I saw, kids played well and executed their assignments constantly. I think a weak bench and long season had a wear down affect as the season closed. With some improvement in talent and time to get more familiar with the offensive and defensive schemes, I think we have a very solid future. Not happy or pleased with the last 4 games but there definitely was improvement.
*And if it gets past spell check I don't worry with it any more

Matt is a good guy but a winner on the basketball court as a coach, he is not. We lived by the three and those who live by the three also died by the three. We were short on players but that is the coaches fault...continual recruiting is a must. We are just dying to see a winner. We will not have better attendance until we get a winner on the court. A review is in order and usually is done following each season...Go Mustangs!
Duke lives and dies by the 3, too. Orsini isn't going to make a change, and after this year — when Doherty had his best record despite having the least talent he has had to work with — he shouldn't make a change. Steve-O gets another year to tell everyone that he hired a former National Coach of the Year.
If CUSA COY didn't go to best record etc, and went to best coaching job, Doh would be right there this year.

I think there's a lot of merit to your comments. No bench or lack of using the bench can take its toll on you in the long run. Short term gains during the early/mid part of conference & then they hit the wall. Also, all of you that have played college ball understand that pulling 4 or 5 players @ a time is no big deal. Coaches are serious head cases & do crazy [deleted] like that all the time when they freak. It was obvious that Doh wanted to get the no tourney win monkey off his back & he knee jerked. All coaches do it. No big deal. Its like getting a drink of water to a player.

this season would have been fine if it was year 1 or 2 of Dohs tenure. The fact that it was year 5 (yes 5) with a bunch of seniors who he has been grooming with massive playing time for the past 4 years, makes it not good even by SMUs low standards. Dement got crucified for similar seasons and no coach in SMU history ever played a worse schedule than Doh put together this year. If you guys want to give Doh a 5 year pass and look completely forward, then you can rationalize anything with that mindset. Losing to Rice last night was horrible, you can't justify it.

Can't disagree with you about anything you say. Doh's body of work @ SMU has many flaws. I'm just saying the future of the program looks the best it has in a very long time. I'm excited about the talent level. If Doh cannot manage next years roster, than we have a problem that has to be addressed. Losing to Rice is always horrible! But you have to give Rice some credit. Their program is progressing & their 2 best players are only soph's.

Orsini tells us that he always reviews each program after the season is over. I would like to see what his review says about this coach and program. The status of any program comes down to the head coach and his plans and development, as well as his record. Next year is always used with reference to our basketball program. We are tired of waiting til next year. We want to hear from Orsini and then maybe we could get behind coach Matt. I don't miss games. Go Mustangs!
