Yikes - In the Tsunami Watch Zone

A tsunami warning means that a tsunami “with significant widespread inundation is imminent or expected. Warnings indicate that widespread dangerous coastal flooding accompanied by powerful currents is possible and may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrival.

A tsunami advisory means a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to anyone in or very near the water is expected, but widespread inundation is not expected.

Still, currents may be hazardous to swimmers and boats, the weather service said.

The waves were expected to hit Santa Barbara at 8:17 a.m. and Santa Monica and San Pedro harbors at 8:32 a.m.

Huntington Beach approximately at 8:45 a.m.

Closest Harbor is Alamitos Bay at 8:46 which is one mile North of Anaheim Bay where the Huntington Harbour jetty enters the Catalina Channel (Pacific Ocean).

Expect many beaches and harbors to be closed, at the discretion of local authorities, due to the Tsunami Advisory that is in effect. A small, clean combo of WNW-NW swell-mix and South(175-190) swell is keeping most breaks in the knee-thigh-waist high zone this morning.

Prayers for Marina Pub and HB Pony Daughter who arrived last night from Dallas appreciated.

Nothing the average non-boater would even notice.

The advantage we have is we are a South Facing Beach so the full force of the surge was 90 Degrees to the Harbour Entrance.

I was awakened at 5:30 from USC Attorney Bill Trojan Fan to tell me to leave followed by a call from my son in Poland advising me to head for the high ground.

Thank goodness much ado about nothing here as opposed to a 10 minute warning in Japan with 30 foot high waves.

Very Sad! :(

This last surge was interesting as the whole surface of the water basically increased like a fast high tide and then receded quickly.

The finger inlets of the harbor have their water start draining after the main channels as they are basically dead ends and they keep draining rapidly into the main channels.

Some of the pictures from Crescent City in nocal are pretty disturbing as they were hit with a good three foot fast moving swell right through the docked boats.

I don't want a big one anytime here in socal!
