So what do we know about Oral Roberts?

Postby CalallenStang » Sun Mar 13, 2011 6:39 pm

Don't know too much about how they are doing this year. Obviously, Sutton has had a nice run up there including a few appearances in the NCAAs.

They've won 10 of 11 to close the year, so that doesn't bode well.

Well, we'll just have to shut them down.

But performance over the last 10 games of the season doesn't matter this year.

SMU didn't exactly close the season out so well........doesn't bode well against a team that went 10 out of 11 is all that is pointed out. Its a home game with students out on Spring Break so the home ad will be limited.....and Dia didn't play as well as we should hope late in the season......he has to come and play hard with an attitude, and Candy man better be hitting his shots, or we will not be happy this off season.

Exactly. It's scary playing a hot team when we have been ice cold.

Hopefully the excitement of a tournament will wake our players up, because we should have the advantage with a home game.

Got ya Dan!!! Sorry misunderstood.....lets get out there and cheer those kids on....they OVER played this year and none of us thought that they would ever be near a NCAA, NIT, CBI, CIT or even playing for a Intra-mural championship game at Dedman Center at the end of the year.

He won't come out of the tower until he hits his cash goals?

He passed in 2009 at the age of 91.

I'm just surprised Scott Sutton is still there. I thought he would have moved on to another job by now. He's a pretty good coach.

In the hopes your thread header is not a rhetorical question...

ORU is young - we start one freshman, two sophomores, a junior and a senior coming off major knee surgery. Started out REALLY slow this year trying to find a point guard, were 5-12 at one point, finally jelled in January, winning 14 out of 17 to close the year, with 2 of those 3 losses coming to conference champion and NCAA #13 Seed Oakland. Junior swingman Dominique Morrison leads us in scoring at 19 points a game, 3 other starters average over 12 points a game (we only play eight guys). We score a lot, but unlike most Scott Sutton teams, defense has been Achilles heel this season.

Speaking of Sutton, conventional wisdom is that he is in no hurry to leave for the wrong job. Actually could have had the Wichita State job when Turgeon left, but he and his wife had a change of heart sitting in their driveway before heading up to Wichita to accept the offer. He's a family man who has his life in perspective, and we are thrilled to still have him after 12 years. His brother Sean, former Oklahoma State head coach, sits next to him on the ORU bench as an unpaid advisor, while legendary father Eddie sits a couple of rows behind in the stands, quietly munching his popcorn. It's really kind of cool...

Thanks for the kind words - very refreshing, in contrast to our occasional forays onto your C-USA brother University of Tulsa's message board...
