Getting worse?

Postby GiddyUp » Wed Mar 16, 2011 10:23 pm

I think these guys were playing much better in Jan/Feb.
Their play has deteriorated seems like to me. I know Dia is hurt tonight but each game we play worse than the game before.

Are they worn out b/c of lack of depth? aside from Morrison - ORU has nothing.

that may have been a top 5 worst ref team at Moody

definitely disagree on the top 5 worst ref team. You're being too generous. I'm pretty sure they made up rules at the end of regulation.

ORU definitely got shut down. Our defense held them 20 points below their season average WITH an extra 5 minutes of play time. While I agree our offense isn't at its seasons best, our defense was awesome. We pressured, had crucial blocks, pushed them on the shot clock several times, fought for the ball on the ground, and really held them better than I expected when we went small (which we did a lot).

Our offense will be better when we get more guys who will shoot the rock. Everyone is deferring too much (other than JFrog who plays fearlessly). Right now teams just let us rotate and wait for the ball to get to Dia or Nyuk then collapse on them. More weapons would make for a better offense.

I should say offense - yes. However - was playing much better O a month ago or more.

Please double team their best player. We got schooled by 45. Haynes did ok for a bit.

It was a pretty bad basketball game, the first 30 minutes were almost painful. there was no energy in the building, so wasn't surprised we were flat. JFrog is starting to worry me with the turnovers. I dismissed them at first, but seems to be getting worse on that, not better. Like the kid. Loved seeing Haynes make those free throws, clearly the best part of the night. His disappearance/lack of development as an upperclassmen and loss of confidence is biggest disappointment of this season. Hope he finds his mojo over the summer, we are gonna need some senior leadership next season. Would have liked to have seen more Losh with the ball in his hands in what amounted to a glorified exhibition game really (please don't call this a postseason win or hoist any banners), but Doh doesn't trust him. Hoping for a better quality game/atmosphere on saturday.

Atmosphere was very flat early and plenty of shots were clanking off the rim for both teams. Not having Papa start just really got us off to an uneven start, everyone looked lost. When Papa got fouled for the AND 1 in the second half, that ignited the crowd and the energy was great after that. Jacksonville is going to be tough, but we can do it, as long as Papa is OK.

Going to have to disagree about the banner. If we win this Sucker, I want a big old CIT Championship banner hanging in Moody. It is not the NCAAs or the NIT, but if we can go deep, we are playing some pretty good teams that had nice seasons.

Looking forward to it!
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Losh is lost out there and has NO swagger or mojo and it was way cool to see Haynes step up and nail those two FT's!....no banner and sorry but we won't go deep in the tournament as these guys aren't playing that well and playing a FC press team on Saturday will mark their demise this season. This is NOT an SMU team that has the open court talent to play a sloppy FC pressure type game and it will totally disrupt their offensive scheme.

Does Losh rhyme w Josh or w Most?

Guess I need a media guide. These are some of the things I wonder about when having a Bill Walton moment

it is more like most. not really good at phonetics, but it sounds like Lowszh when Doh says.

It was an awful game, and I think we've run out of gas, not to mention Papa's injury. Totally agree about Haynes, great to see him step up in what amounts to a miserable year for a good kid. I really expected to see him slash so much more this year.

IF we win the CIT, which we won't, put up a banner. If not, just nice to get a postseason win. No postseason tourney is exhibition. There are about 175 teams sitting at home wishing they were still playing.

I'd say play has gotten sloppier, but it's hard to say worse when we lost our last 4 by a combined total of 9, and won in OT again, this time in postseason. We just have a short bench and no real scoring threats.

I don't want to see Losh handle right now, but he should be getting more minutes. He's right there w/Rob as our best shooter, and given our propensity for scoring droughts, you have to have shooters on the arc.

I agree on Haynes, but I also think Harp deserves a good mention. Harp played his best defensive game of the season and it was evident early on. He played strong defense on Morrison (although nobody really contained him), Stokes (Darth Helmet), and Bell-Holtser and really frustrated them when he covered them.
He added 6 points which isn't huge production but is good for someone who is really just playing a defensive role. He also had a huge block that swung the momentum in our favor when it happened.
