That being said, I hope next year we have a more dynamic offensive system more suited to the roster full of studs we will have.

it's going to be the same system, but I think they'll fast break a little more, and not feel compelled to eat 30 of the 35 every possession.

Yep...gonna look like Richmond's offense (but with more talent, I daresay...)

We beat some decent RPI teams this year. Stallion pointed out the dregs, but there were plenty of nice wins as well in conference.

That run we put together when we beat Memphis, Southern Miss, ECU and @Tulsa was the best stretch of basketball any SMU team has played in ages. Too bad we lost the last four by a combined 9 points.

Basketball is different from football, until we are much better, play cupcakes in OOC and build on that.

I am happy where we are heading...I think...took longer than I would have wanted, but maybe we have got the pony out of the stable finally and hes headed towards the track.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Stallion is all excited about football - forgetting we got beat by frigging army in a home game . You could could say doh got more out of less then jj.

Bottom line - both teams improving - will be some fun in both sports to be had in next few yrs

Exactly, both teams are improving, which is for the good. That said, Doh did a much better job coaching this year than JJ did. JJ had so much more to work with, and really didn't have a quality win all year. Both squads need to step up and cut the head off a big soon

you basketball homers are laughable... stallion brings facts and you come back with opinions. as for the the army game, it was one of two games the football team should have won...
other losses
TT (8-5, could we hang with any big XII on the road?, bowl game)
#2 TCU (could SMU BB hang with Duke?)
NAVY (9-4, road game loss, bowl game)
UH (Top 25 to start the season)
UTEP (road game, bowl game)
#21 UCF (road game, CUSA champs)

and we beat #24 Tulsa.... so while Ponydohsupermanxxxhoop argues CUSA basketball is superior (opinion), the fact is our football program schedule is much more challenging (and football has two top 25 teams)

Everyone goes to a bowl game, and half of crap CUSA goes to a bowl game. No different than hoops. Basketball hung w/A&M last year in hoops, and could easily do so next year. Hell, they beat Memphis the last two, which is bigger than any victory football has put up in the last several, short of the Nevada game, just b/c it was our first bowl back. Comparing TCU to Duke is laughable. Put TCU in a legit BCS league and they have 4 losses. Navy is a tough system to defend, but we never ever beat them. UH bum rushed us, and they weren't close to Top 25 at the time. UTEP blows in football. LOL, basketball lost to the CUSA champs on the road too, big deal.

Be real, the hoops roster is more loaded than football starting next year, and they are in a better position to beat high majors w/regularity, until football gets a few more classes under it's belt. Oh yeah, hoops won its postseason game this year, football crapped the bed vs an abysmal team at home

Your hate breeds more hate...

The sports really aren't comparable and saying that Jj had more talent to work with is really dumb.

Jj had 1 recruiting class to work with doh had 4.

You can argue all you want but taking shots at a sport that in general takes 3-4 recruiting classes to turn around shows that you should stick with supporting basketball and not taking dumps on the football team.

If it wasn't for Jj how many of the bball teams fab class next year would have even been accepted into the university?

Not to mention there is no bcs in bball which evens the playing field considerably.

Here's the thing, I don't hate on football, cause I love our program. I'm just not giddy like some, based on very average accomplishments. You take real talk so seriously, like I'm assaulting JJ or something. I love the man, as does our hoops staff. That said, take your blinders off, cause last year was very average on the gridiron, had no marquee wins, and was pretty disappointing on the whole.. How is that debatable? I understand how long it takes to build a football program, and we're very much on track. That said, neither program has arrived, and they both sit in about the same position.

I'm also not debating that JJ gets what he wants in terms of administration and policy. I'm thankful for that, but it needed to happen regardless. Don't get so bent out of shape about my comparisons, cause I'm just throwing back what hoops fans have dealt w/around here for some time. JJ is looking at 7-5, maybe, in year 4. Cool, i'll be excited and have beers for every game, but it is what it is. If we go 8-4, I'm ecstatic. Lose all our big games again, like TCU, A&M and Navy, and next year will be 'meh'

Nick, all you football guys need to do is admit we're on equal footing about now, quit w/garbage drive-bys, and I'll stop. I want both to dominate, don't get that confused

For the first time since I've been associated with SMU (15 years), I am optimistic about the direction of both the football and basketball programs. To me that is "turning the corner." Both programs are still a work in progress, but improvement is apparent.

I just find it odd that you can take such an honest look at the football program without looking the same way at the basketball program.

I look at both equally, neither team had a very impressive year, both are looking better for the future. Football relies on talent and depth and we are finally starting to get both but no where close to where tcu is...but that is hard to do When you have to basically get 44 talented kids willing to play a sport where the major programs have every advantage.

Step back and look at things with an unbiased opinion and you should see you are undercutting the football teams accomplishments in the short end and overvaluing the bball team.

Both are in similar improving positions but bball should only take .5 the amount of time football does.
