Awww...I hurt some feelings. I am an alum. I want SMU to win today...and the WHOLE CI.comT. I just dont count the CI.comT as the postseason. Just like I dont count the greeneggsandham.com Bowl a real bowl game. Call me old school...but a bunch of teams battling for .500 is just not the same.

Its cool SMU can buy its way into this thing...but give me the 1993 1st round loss to BYU in NCAAs over a CI.comT crown ANYDAY!

It's 2011, and I will refer you to my post about "Welcome to the World of College athletics.''

You're stuck in good old days syndrome. Just like you threw down your advocation of the alleged "culture change" the Fab 5 brought. That was crap too.

You're refusal to acknowledge the CIT as a postseason tournament is just nothing but sheer snobbery and arrogance.

That's fine. If you are desperate to turn back the clock, that's up to you.

Some of us are OK with reality.

Ridiculous!

I don't remember is stats that game vs Baylor..indulge us. I remember him playing pretty well against Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA.....he was a quick, heady player....

I don't know whose feelings you hurt. That's about the weakest trash talk I've seen on this board.

No team can "buy its way in" to the tournament. You get invited and can buy the right to host home games. All this means is, instead of paying expenses to travel, you save money on these expenses and have the opportunity to generate a little revenue. At least get your facts straight.

As for the "back in my day" syndrome, its an odd coincidence that you sit on an online message board to back in my day a bunch of people. Thats just [deleted].

Not really sure a CIT "invite" is the dawning of the new age of college athletics?!? More like a handful of marketing folks and opportunistic entrepreneurs making a few bucks, which IS the age of college sports. Let's not act like "oh, this is what post season feeels like", because this is a distant number four in the NCAA post season line up, behind the CIB or CBI, whatever. Quite frankly, I thought we were not into moral victories and settling around here, or at least that has been the tone and tenor of PF.com. Conference titles are the goal, with an NCAA selection as the prize...second to that, to "reward" a decent season, an NIT invite is a nice consolation, some history with this tourney, especailly if you can make it to The Garden and the semis. Other than that, when does football start? Go Mustangs!!

you're right, it's not the dawning of a new age, nor did anyone claim that. Just annoyed that people keep saying we bought our way in which is just downright false.

I have also never seen anyone on this board ever claim that this was some highly respected tournament. It is a tournament, a post-season tournament, and it is better than what happened the last 10 years. Hopefully, it is an opportunity for Robert and Jeremiah to get some additional experience to build upon next year. I am also glad it is one more opportunity for Dia to play on his home court in front of fans that appreciate him.

And I would be thrilled if we can make it to something better so would pretty much everyone else on the board. I'm just glad that I'm about to leave work, grab a point burger, and eat some half time meatballs one more time. This isn't the goal, but I'm going to have a good saturday.

Why don't you just come to the game and support the team?

Go Mustangs

2ndandlong...title of this thread says otherwise...since I am on a golf trip with the boys, the Mustangs are teeing it up at Stevens Park today, which is cool, they are playing some golf, but....let's not act like it's Preston Trail....

You're right. And the NCAA didn't create the First Four bc it was the fun thing to do and didn't really acknowledge the idea of making more $....of course these touneys were created with $$....help me understand the issue....

Good old day syndrome strikes again. Ridiculous.

The issue, really..is that you are getting all worked up because some of us are not jacking off over the CIT.

no it doesnt. i don't speak for mustangsabu, but the way I read it is he's excited that we're playing on saint patricks day not the dawn of a new era. drop the hyperbole and let us be excited that we get to watch basketball.

and remember this all day - shank shank shank shank shank

who's jacking off over this. i know youre all about the mouth foaming erections, but we just want to watch more basketball games regardless of context. having more games to watch this season is exciting to those of us that are season ticket holders or go to as many games as possible.
