End of Game

Postby mavsrage311 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 5:52 pm

Surprised there's not a thread for this, so I'll start one.

Unbelievable finish, I was at the game with a great view, but I wasn't so sure that A. Papa got the shot off in time and B. That he was fouled

There was 0.8 seconds left and Papa caught the ball, came down with it, and then went up for the shot. Obviously I'm not complaining and the refs said it was good, but I had my doubts when the refs went to replay. Also, where was the foul? Did anybody see? All I saw was a clean block, was it on the body?

Props to Papa for playing a hell of a game, and hitting 2 of the biggest free throws of his life. A great way to go out at your last home game as a Mustang, and you could see what it meant to him, he was very emotional after the game.

PS J-Frog can play on my team ANY day, kid's got a lot of MOXIE and POISE. I'm excited about having him for 3 more years. He needs to cut his TO's down a bit, but IMO he already plays with the poise of an upperclassmen. How clutch has he been at the end of games for us?

I was courtside. He was clearly hacked in the head.

Head and arm got hacked. Shot left his hand before the buzzer. Correct call.

It was very easy to see on the video feed. From a distant shot you see the ball leave Dia's hand before the red light goes on. On the close up replay he was absolutely mugged. Of course I have an SMU bias but I do not think anyone could complain with any of the final call if you watch the replay.

I believe that #21 for Jaxonville may have some anger management issues. And this was not Pop's last game as a Mustang, they have at least one more at Northern Iowa.

Papa was totally mugged - the dreadlock dude can be as mad as he wants about the foul being called, but how in the hell can they leave Papa that wide open under the basket? That's what they should be mad about.

It might not be his last home game if the right teams lose in the Elite Eight.

You're right, after triple-teaming him down the stretch, how could they leave him wide open right under the basket? They got what they deserved. Thanks for clearing up the foul question guys, glad we legitimately beat those guys. I'm still pumped

Mangrum must have freaked when he saw that they left him open. I mean with less the a second left and ball at mid court - with a 6-10 dude taking away the top (supposedly) - your chances are about 0. They could have left anyone else open and we lose. still dont know how he got it to him in exactly the right spot. Guess his dad really was a QB.

It may have been one of the best inbound passes I have ever seen.

What a great play from the coaches. I bet they were as shocked as the rest of us that Pop was so open under the basket. Basketball 101.

unbelievable how open Papa got. remember, the clock doesnt start until he catches it, so shouldnt have been any doubt that he got the shot attempt up before the buzzer/light. I'm a little surprised we got the foul call though despite the contact. The Jax coach was working the refs and motivating his team pretty effectively down the stretch. I wish Doh was effective at working the refs. The ref who gave Papa the call was the same one who called blocking on what I thought was a clear charge on Jax with about 2 minutes left (Mike Walker took it). The fans around me, and maybe me, let that ref know in a polite way that he was giving Jax every call down the stretch. The crowd was small but spirited today. It was really a poor showing attendance wise. We gotta do better than that. Have we tried $1 cokes and hot dogs yet? cmon David Miller, you are buying games, can't you subsidize some hot dogs now and buy some fans too?
