Bryan McCann Arrested

FriscoChuck wrote:What is weird about this story is that it was the lead story on channel 8 news last night. Obviously the news director thinks this is higher priority than the war in Libya or the disaster in Japan. And just as interesting they made sure to indicate that McCann was from SMU almost as much as that he was a Cowboy.

Who the heck is the news director at WFAA on Saturday night? Why is the lead story a 2nd string player on a crap [deleted] Cowboy team in non season when all the players are unemployed had too many beers?

Good-more publicity that an SMU player is on the cowboys

Typical Bevo Corporation. If it were a professional and former player for that-school-in-Austin-that-shall-remain-nameless-by-me, it wouldn't have even been on the broadcast. I refuse to watch Ch. 8 news & sports. And so should the rest of you.

Assuming Bryan is found innocent, which I hope to be the case, wonder if Belo will make THAT the top story as well.

I think we all know the answer to that one.

Well you must have spent most of your career living in denial then. Most of the Dallas cops don't give a [deleted] if someone was involved in an altercation at a bar or not, they simply start cuffing and macing people just so they can go home. It happened at Metro with Martin, Turner, Sanders, Willis, Hasson, etc. I watched people attempt to have a rational conversation with the cops and they simply maced them and cuffed them, even though they were arresting the wrong people. Get real. Who gives a bleep about a PI. A person could walk out of a bar having had one drink and get a PI, its all at the cops discretion and the Dallas cops, albeit SMU has about 4 to 5 on the force now, just don't care. Obviously there are exceptions. This is a non story so all you whining blue hairs should shut up. Saying "he should have known better". You weren't there. As for fighting it in a court of law, pay the small fine and be over it.

I have to agree with mustanggunner. In these situations cops are more about enforcing authority than they are about enforcing the LAW. How many people do you think get arrested outside a bar for saying something to a cop that is clearly protected free speech? Again, enforcing authority not the LAW

Apparently you have no clue as to law, police training, police paper work, sitting around the jail for for endless hours beyond your shift waiting to get an arrestee booked and before a magistrate/judge. Later, being called to testify in a proceeding on your day off. Get real and wake up.

Of course not. Belo's job is to sell papers/increase ratings, not report news.

If/when McCann is found innocent, it will get one line — maybe — in the back of the sports page, right below some ads for pre-owned Hyundais.

He's a Dallas Cowboy.
That's why this is getting any ink/airtime.
Not that complicated.

I doubt the weekend producer or night editor saw McCann's name and instantly thought it was a way to go after SMU. Probably didn't even know he went to SMU until they started googling his name.
