Proving that the LCD is Alive and Well

Postby HB Pony Dad » Wed Mar 16, 2011 8:53 pm

This just proves that the Lowest Common Denominator is alive and well in America!

ESPN Films’ The Fab Five Becomes ESPN’s Highest Rated Documentary.

Grief! It wasn't even the Best Documentary of the Night! :evil:

ESPN just used the formula of "The U" and "Pony Excess" to dove tail the audience of a highly rated program to keep viewers watching.

Revisionist History at its best!

Proving that the LCD is Alive and Well

Seems like everyone thinks this is a 30 for 30 (I sure did) - which it's not

Lots and lots of false info in that doc. Not that special - and the Fab Five didn't WIN the title even with Webber getting a NBA contract in college

I didn't see the all the 30 for 30s but I did see the first 15 and Pony Excess. I have to disagree with you because looking at this objectively, I would have rank this in the upper tier of documentaries in that series. IMHO, had this been part of that series it would have been on par with Run Ricky Run, The U, and Pony Excess. As much as I enjoyed Pony Excess, I didn't learn anything new.

No problem - we can agree to disagree. Regardless of the series or not, Those guys weren't that special if you look at the overall history of college hoops. - they didn't accomplish anything. nice story, but that is about it. They didn't invent anything -- fashion or otherwise. Maybe the UNLV Runnin' Rebs with their misfits and gangsters would have been more interesting.

Run Ricky Run was pathetic, not even in the top 5 of the series - that guy is a mental case and showed how sad it is to waste that special talent. Not much entertainment there.

if all you took away form the fab 5 doc was the basketball then you completely missed a large portion of what that documentary was about.

It would seem that a number of people out there seem to believe that Run Ricky Run was pretty good based on the ESPN poll:

* 1 Pony Excess (1,890) 122,363
* 2 The U (1,803) 108,985
* 3 Marcus Dupree (346) 87,088
* 4 Two Escobars (548) 82,760
* 5 Run Ricky Run (100) 80,561

While Ricky is a head case, some of us like to watch a good train wreck. Based on the documentaries I saw, Fab Five would have ranked in my top five. It doesn't matter that they never won anything it was still a good documentary. My only question from watching Fab Five is when did East Plano become "inner city?"
